Description Something I've had in my head for a while.

This sketch only took maybe 20-30 minutes in total (with some lollygagging, staring at the wall or whatver, here and there)

I'd hate to add something so incomplete to my beautiful gallery, but creating art with beautiful colours, shadows, lighting, and effects takes time and energy that I don't always have.

I've been thinking of just doing little sketches and not-fully-fleshed-out art for a while now, because it's a lot easier and stuff.
That would mean you'd see a good bit more from me, but it wouldn't look quite as pretty.
This would allow me to draw longer comics with more panels because it wouldn't be so intimidating to work on and I wouldn't be as much of a stressed out wreck trying to produce them in a timely manner.

but they wouldn't look as nice

I would like your opinions on the matter though.
Basically, should I keep putting out beautiful(ish) works very slowly, or should I start uploading less "completed" work on a more regular basis?

Yeah, I'm definitely leaning toward picking up this method of production.

Could be fun!

I think uploading sketches is fine. It doesn't have to be all of them, but I don't mind.

Yeah, I wouldn't only upload incomplete stuff like this, but it would let me get more ideas out there on a more regular basis, and the massive workloads that are my normal drawings will be more special but not any less frequent than they already are.

That sounds like it'd work out.

If you wanted a suggestion... you could do something like , and utilize the Scraps section of your gallery. Though if you do that, you may want to make sure you announce it in a journal that is regularly at the top of your homepage? I certainly like the idea of seeing your WIP/sketches, and I feel like this would allow you to maintain a "beautiful" gallery while also uploading regularly (though I'd argue this is beautiful, as well).

lol I'm glad you think my sketches are beautiful

I'm a bit partial for not using the scraps folder for work like this because it's not technically a "scrap" it's more of a "piece that I didn't feel like colouring and/or adding lighting and effects to" just because I ran out of inspiration or energy or what-have-you. You can read my reply to WesKripsy's comment for more elaboration.

While that definitely makes sense, I would still say it might be a good idea. Just because something is in Scraps doesn't mean it isn't a partial/incomplete piece... but it can be a very good way to divide your gallery a bit. That way, people who really like seeing this sort of art are able to subscribe to seeing everything, both Gallery and Scraps, whereas anyone subscribed to you just for the colored/shaded/completed artwork is able to stay with that. Of course, it's up to you... honestly, I just love seeing more of your art.

Honesty I'll say the same thing I tell everyone that seems to ask this same questions. You draw WHATEVER you want to, and don't let anyone force you to change or pander to what they want

Having said that, as to the question on these sketches it's only if they're comic pages for me, this here that you drew is not my cup of tea, but if it was drawn as a comic I'd be on board for more. It might be because this is just a really calm picture to begin with, so it might not be the best example for me of what you'd be drawing from now on. Try posting some of your sketches and see what others think if you notice no one seems to like them then I guess stop, but if they do then it's win-win. My opinion is more biased towards comics though because I love them so much haha >.<

Whatever you decide to do I hope you like it

Thanks for your opinion! I like that you give thought-out responses.

To elaborate, my plan is to draw portraits and other single images in a more detailed way, with more effects and lighting and stuff to make them look really nice, and that will be my "professional work."
Then, on the other hand, I'll have comics (and other drawings like scraps n stuff) that can't have as much put into them because of the sheer amount of work it would be to produce them.
Those will have less effects and stuff so that I can get more out there without having to crush myself with the workload.

This plan will let me upload more often so I can interact with my watchers and get feedback on my work, and I'll just be able to draw more and have more freedom of creativity without having to worry about "finishing" every piece I come up with.

You're welcome, I notice when other ask something like this most that don't like the idea won't bother to comment (not that I don't like the idea)

Ah okay so the comics is kinda the main push for this look then. I think that'll help then, comics get a better sense that you "worked" on it. if that makes sense. Like if you posted the update to this NOT as the comic but as a bunch of random sketches I wouldn't have liked it as much as I do. Yeah balancing it all out will be interesting to see, I can't wait to see more art from you ^W^

Sounds like a plan hopefully you don't get "too comfortable" drawing these easier works but I think you'll do great!

If you think that a work might need some fixing before prettying it up and want the feedback of others or just want to put out something that your not sure about completing, I'd say go for it.

JohnTennantGTS In reply to Minor-Creativeness [2018-04-22 17:47:31 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not about getting feedback, it's about just posting stuff without the effects and stuff because it's easier. I wouldn't upload that level of work all the time, but it would let me get more art out there.
