Zoiks!Β  I just realized I didn't have you on my watch list, which is why I didn't know you were into fractals!Β  You slipped through my net, sorry about that!

Just fixed that.

When I was a child i used to climb trees with my cousins to catch cicadas ...there used to be a season when all of them came out at once.

Yes!Β  Summer time.Β  It is that time here now, you can hear the cicadas everywhere.Β  I think some years they are more numerous than others though.

I get the sense that the seasons can be rather extreme in Canada.Β  You'll often see Canadian artists online in winter (perhaps practically snowed into their homes), but when summer comes?Β  Hardly a sight to be seen!

Thanks.Β  Not a cicada fan?Β  They can be pretty devastating on crops.

We had oversized cicadas when we lived on the US East Coast. I used to call them face eating bugs--I have no idea why. That's what sprang to mind the first time I saw one.

Oh ok - well, generally speaking they don't eat humans at all.Β  If they tried to have a bit of a munch it would be because they were confused, maybe you were wearing a colour similar to their favourite vegetable or something.Β  Once they realized their mistake they wouldn't try to keep munching.

No, nothing on me. It had landed on the car of a friend of mine and just sat there for hours! I gave the car a wide berth the whole time we were at their house!!!

Well, you are not the only one - my daughter is afraid of them too - took all her courage to look at my photo of one!

Mom-EsPeace In reply to jojo22 [2015-02-13 20:23:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, my daughter went through that whole stage of crying at the sight of bug pictures. We had to do the tough love thing with her!!

Lol - don't know where they get it from, I never modeled fear of anything but white tail spiders, and only then because their bites can necrotize the skin and they have a habit of jumping into the laundry.Β  Though some argue they don't even cause the rotting skin, I don't know.

We looked these buggers up after you sent this. I hate to tell you, Jo, but I WON'T be visiting you anytime soon!!! We have the brown recluse in our area--very similar as far as necrotizing the skin, but they tend to hide in garages or golf bags (I don't golf either!)
