Description
There he stood,
The one who cannot be destroyed,
The one who cannot die
Above the skies stood
The ultimate dinosaur
There he stood,
As he has always done
He stood the machines, the explosion
and whatever were to come
For that was his fate,
He was born to stand
the one who cannot die
Above the skies he will stand,
On the cold wasteland
which grinning snout and crying heart
because he cannot die
because he cannot fly
so close yet so far
stand the ultimate dinosaur

This one has an almost tragic story, when I was half way done I almost lost it due to my computer issues , thankfully I learn from my previous mistakes and had one copy on google drive. So, take my advice and be careful when doing huge pieces, always back up.
So, this big dinosaur ...thing is Cebalrai, from Dino Crisis 3. He was design by M.T.H.R to stand the void of space, and well let's just say he could stand far more than that . Anyways, it was made in gimp as usual ....and, oh boy it took long! It took me about 2 days of drawing time with this guy, never before I had spent so much time on digital pieces and were almost 2 weeks to finish, but it only increase my feel of proud for this one
Guess I'm getting better with shades and light, . Feel free to leave a comment bellow for critics and tips

Wonderful piece of work! I LOVE the Dino Crisis franchise! Being a dinosaur fanatic I thought all the games were fantastic! I know not everyone liked the third one, but I personally loved it! I thought the mutant dinosaurs looked scary and cool at the same time, especially the Cebalrai. It is indeed the ultimate dinosaur. The only creatures I can think of that would stand any chance against it are kaiju such as Godzilla. Otherwise if you want to kill one of these things you need to do while its still in Rigel form.

Hello from the weekly commenting project of
This is pretty unique. I'm not familiar with the franchise it came from, but it sounds like it is pretty neat.
The brightness of the planet contrasts with the moon the Cebalrai is standing on creating a nice point of interest. My eyes look at the planet then travel down to the moon and Cebalrai quite nicely and naturally. In my opion, this makes your composition work very well. The Cebalrai is an interesting point in the picture as it isn't necessarily what I would expect to see on the moon. But it gives the image a nice sense of wonder. I think you did a great job with your color scheme here. Although the Cebalrai has bright orange markings on its skin, the orange doesn't demand attention. My eye can freely roam the image and take in other details. Sometimes the danger of adding a hot color is that it can drag the eye to it when you want the viewer to see the rest of the image you so painstakingly made. You did a good job keeping your colors and contrast such that the orange doesn't dominate the image.
The main thing I think you could do to improve is to look at some references of lunar surfaces. The surface has the smoothness of the moon, but it is almost more like looking at a cloud (in fact, I initially mistook the lunar surface for clouds) Study the shapes of lunar rocks and look at the various parts of the surface to see how you can add some defining strokes when drawing the surface. You have a fine grained surface, but it lacks the defining lines and structures to make it an obvious lunar surface. Another thing I notice is the brightness of the light around the earth. It is attention catching, but it feels a little too bright compared to the pictures you see of the view of earth from space. Maybe you can dim the light a little bit. One other small but crucial detail is stars. Space is full of them. Adding a light sprinkling of stars is a great effect for any drawing involving space
I hope you find this comment helpful. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback ,
I hadn't put much thought into the eye path when doing this one so I'm glad it worked that well. About the stars, I initially was going to place them but I decide against it to emphasize his loneliness, now I'm not sure it was a good idea.
The moon... ah the moon...
To be honest I really didn't knew what I was doing on the surface of the moon . I was going with something more like a desert with some craters here and there(yes, that flat gray stuff on the right was suppose to be a crater full of basalt, like in the moon oceans), then I try to give it a blurr because the surface wasn't the focal point, however it didn't turn out like it should so I try to correct that adding some light on close to the bottom of the drawing, where thing should be more well defined, to create contrast and it ended like this.
Anyways, thanks again it was a very helpful comment

Hello! I am from
I am sorry that it took me so long to get to you. And I hope that I can offer you something interesting that you will find useful.
First of all, thank you very much for writing out the references so I can look them up. I looked up what a Cebalrai was and I have to say, it's a very difficult beast to draw. And from what I am looking at, you've done a pretty good job. The markings on its skin also look pretty well done and convincing. The lighting from the planet up top was really, really nicely done. And as you've mentioned earlier, the lighting was pretty well-handled in this piece as well. I definitely believe you when you said you are getting better!
Now, how to make this picture even better?
The first thing that comes to mind was the rough surface of the planet the Cebalrai is sitting on. It looks more dusty and almost misty instead of rocky and planetoid. I would recommend you to look up some references of lunar surfaces to get an idea of how a rocky abandoned planetoid surface would look like (astroengine.files.wordpress.co… and i.ytimg.com/vi/u8MOHMOsRsw/max… and tctechcrunch2011.files.wordpre… ) These pictures also show you the washed out, high-contrast "space photo" look that's common in this kind of pictures. While the huge contrasting shadows are pretty realistic, the shadow really blends into the skin of your Cebalrai and it's hard to find out where the body ends and where the shadow starts. I would recommend you look up references of the animal (including screen shots from the game or even concept drawings, etc) to get a better idea of how the light would reflect off its skin. (Shiny things would reflect more light, so if the Cebalrai has shiny, frog-like skin, it'll -really- glow. But if it's got scales, it'll scatter light and glow in small amounts.) From what I can find (img02.deviantart.net/27ea/i/20… ) these animals seem to have smooth, slick sort of skin. So you'd probably see even more reflected light. That will help you to distinguish the animal from the shadows it casts.)
I hope this was helpful to you! You have chosen a really difficult thing to draw but I think you are off to a good start. So keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback, it was very helpful
To be honest, I really didn't knew what to do with the moon surface, I try to mimic the ring pattern of a crater and ended with this mist like aspect, on my next space piece I will try to make it more rocky
I plan to draw Cebalrai more times in the future, and the skin is a trick part, so thanks again

Hello! And you are more than welcome!
I am so glad to hear that my comments were useful to you.
The moon surface is a tough one - and that's why I try to find photographic references whenever I am not sure of something. A lot of pros also use references, you see - some of the professional manga artists will talk about buying books of photographs as references in their linear notes. Folks just don't buy that many books anymore and it's sometimes hard to find the exact one - so that's where Google Images come in to play.
I will be looking forward to seeing more of your Cebalrai drawings in the future. And i hope the picture I have linked for you last time will come in handy!
Have a nice day!
