Description
I actually finished this a while back, I was just trying to find my camera since my iPod is MIA.Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff; Rocky Horror. COMPLETE AT LAST
Unfortunately I got ink on his left eyebrow. It's unfixable so I just hope to god that it's not noticeable.

Come to think of it, the Cramps are like an Americana, band version of the Rocky Horror Show. All sleaze, parody of sci-fi and horror but before it became the 'cool' thing to do. In their first incarnation, the rhythm guitarist looked like Magenta and their lead guitarist looked like Riff Raff [link]

(It's not big out here in Australia, but there is a cast in my city, Cards 4 Sorrow. I went last Halloween to an open-air night screening by the riverside, but there were public noise restrictions so it had to be quite low-key, and only friends and me dressed up. (Yup! I used to pull off Magenta pretty well - I didn't have a screen-accurate costume but I had mad hair and a mad face and a white apron - but now my hair's short so until I get a good wig [I refuse to buy those cheap shiny ones] I'm just going to do a vague movie-gothic 1930s scream queen look. i.e. this dress which I just ordered [link] with stockings, suspenders, black underwear/bikini, high heels if I can't get granny boots, black net gloves and Magenta makeup and hopefully some silver spray-on hairdye! haha I look pretty right for space Magenta but I don't have a costume for that.
Frank's outfit is amazing, so is Columbia. Have you seen Little Nell's original 1973 stage costume? I love it so much, I think it's my fave Columbia look. I'd love to get my sister to wear it.)

(Awesome You'll look great; Hope I get to see a pic If we're still doing this, haha. [Warning I'm gonna blab about myself for a bit here, haha] Yeah I had to do a lot of whining in order to get a fairly screen-accurate outfit. [link] I could only get my hands on foil-dot sequin material for the gold in her tailcoat [working on getting the proper stuff] and I didn't have the cash for the proper bustier. My hair was already cut like Nell's so wigs weren't an issue. I spent six hours with a hot glue gun and tap shoes and did them by hand. After all of this, I usually dress as Frank when I'm at home, haha.
As for her original stage outfit, Yeah, I love it! Have you seen the 'new' Columbia look for the official Rocky Tour last year? I really didn't like it. They chose to go Rockabilly and I just didn't think it suited her character. I have a lot of conceptual crap which my mind has formulated behind why she dresses like she does and the new outfit didn't meet that criteria haha.)

Leeet's! Do! The Time! Warp! Againnn!!! *duh-do-do-do-do falls flat*
(Bah, I hope so! I'm between short and average, so I have to be careful what to wear so as not to look shorter. And if I get a good photo - believe me I'll try - I'll deviantart it and let you know. I'm going to a vintage clothing sale tomorrow afternoon.
Blabbing is absolutely fine!Whoo, I like it! You make a good Columbia. Me as Magenta is on my deviantart, but the costume was very piecemeal.
Hmm, which one? I'm not sure. I don't mind getting creative with the costumes, but I think certain unwritten laws should be followed. I hated the 2008/9 Australian productions Magenta/Columbia/RiffRaffs, though I liked their Frank and his cape a lot. iOTA is pretty cool.
I've been designing in my head, and I kind of have Riff Raff similar, frock-versions of the striped Ziggy Stardust spacesuit for the takeover, and a 30s scream queen look for Magenta again, similar to my next costume but with a dress closer to her sheer one in the movie.

*Sweet T Music Starts Subtly*
-Brad, please let's get out of here.
~It's just a party, Janet.
-But I want to go.
(Awesome
Yeah, I've done some costume designs but each of them follow certain rules in my head. Like how they shouldn't be all extravagant and fancy; it loses the essence of the show. The show is meant to be tacky, derelict and totally punk rock; Sue Blane was amazing at accomplishing that. In my head, Columbia is an exhibitionist with a longing for Glamour which she will never get, and her outfit has to demand that sort of attention; which matches her ringleader/showgirl/circus style outfit of the movie and original show. The 2010 version (Vids of the tour here: [link] ) of Magenta (She isn't meant to be blonde!) and Columbia just weren't to my taste, nor done with respect to Sue Blane's original concept.
They sound cool; My Riff design has a bit of a Steampunk influence, and Magenta is similar to the original show.)

~Well we can't go anywhere until I get to a phone
-Well then ask the butler or someone!
~Just a moment, Janet, we don't want to interfere with their celebrations.
(Exactly! I agree! They should be dramatic and at times colourful, but they should keep a bit of a DIY thing. All the clothes in the movie were quite simple in design, or from thrift and goodwill stores. Sue Blane as you say was the main part of that. You're right about Columbia too!
Ah yes I know that one... I think it's overproduced, but I think it has a good main cast so I warmed to it, but though I like the costumes objectively I think they don't hit the mark. They could have made Magenta's hair red/dark red or something, or even blonde but more wild and gothic. And Riff's look is too clean, his hair's all straight and perfect.
I'd like to see your ideas! I will eventually sketch mine.)

-Look, I'm cold, I'm wet, and I'm just plain scared!
~I'm here, There's nothing to worry about.
*Screams and faints* *Camera zooms up to Tim*
(I just remember reading Sue's quote "I stayed up all night, sewed on all the sequins myself" about Tim's main corset [Was it in Concept to Cult? I can't remember.] Which comes through, I think. The costumes look hand made, and that suits the show perfectly; that and the fact that they re-used his corset from another production he'd done, so it'd already got a 'worn in' feel.
Yeah, I like the music; Rob was a good Frank if you take Curry out of your mind; God, Tim was born to play that role. But I think the costumes were a little to 'polished'; too clean, as you say. Don't get me wrong, I like that production, You're just hearing me complain about the bits I don't like rather than talk about the parts I do.
What's your opinion on the other cast albums? London, Roxy, etc?
Unfortunately I am camera-less at the moment but I will post pics as soon as I can [: I'm interested in yours, too.)

Faithful handyman.
He's a little brought down... 'cause when you knocked... He thought
You were the candyman, Didn't ya Freaky?
*hadto add that stage bit*
(I don't have any Rockybooks - combination of being a semi-closeted fan and having no money. Bah. I love worn in clothes - they're so much sexier and have atmosphere and style.
Yes, Rob was definitely one of the better ones - Timmy's obviously the best, I love iOTA's probably second best [though he was the only thing I liked in that production at all - here he is on an awful show you probably know. bleh [link] ]
London Roxy and movie probably all tie for first place in my mind. For songs like Sword of Damocles, I Can Make You A Man, Hot Patootie, my favourite versions are Roxy. For songs like Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite, Floor Show and I'm Going Home, I love the original London versions. And for my favourite song of all, Science Fiction/Double Feature, I love the movie version best. I have the Piccadilly 1990 cast album as well, and I'm neither here nor there on it (as far as it is possible for me to be so with Rocky Horror, haha). I like Edward Tudor-Pole's Riff Raff and Adrian Edmondson's Brad, but though the Frank is amusing [forget his name] he really can't sing very much. He hasn't much range, power or quality. Any of the three other Franks I mentioned are far preferable. Magenta is just okay, Janet has a nice voice but she is far too sexual sounding from the beginning, it doesn't actually sound like she has any character development at all.
Have you got the Belasco 1975 bootleg? It's like the Roxy version, same cast but lower sound quality BUT it keeps all the dialogue which is really cool, and Richard O'Brien is Riff Raff because the Roxy's Riff got sick or something. I love it.)

Don't get strung out, by the way I look, Don't judge a book by it's covaah-eh-eeeer! I'm not - Much of a man by the light of day, but by night I'm one (Sick motherfucker) [Haha I love that AP line]...*Throws cape*
(Well my opinion on albums can be found there -> [link] . Haha, save me typing it again. [Gahh my mouth is on fire... Eating fried rice with a chilli sauce. Not that you needed to know that.] and I might add that I agree with you about Charles Atlas Song, Hot Patootie and The Sword of Damocles. I don't like the guy that Peter was lip syncing in the movie. For that 2010 production, Rob Folwer just couldn't get the floor show right, in my opinion. Tim just draws you in and makes you want to scream 'TAKE ME NOW!' haha, whereas I was just sitting there thinking 'oh, that's nice. He can sing well.' And I didn't care for Frank when Rob sung I'm going home. Maybe I'm biased, since I think Tim is so divine in that role and can't look at him objectively, I don't know.
I don't think I've heard the bootleg one, unless it was the one posted on RockyMusic. I can't remember what recording that was...
That iOTA one is brilliant! haha. I han't seen it before, I'd been meaning to. I could see a bit of Tim creeping in there; the only issue I had was being used to Tim being a bit more subtle about the sexual references; it was all very insinuated and allusive. It took me half a year to realize that when he says 'my favourite obsession' it has no real link with the next line about creating Rocky. Haha.
I need to watch Shock Treatment again...
I wore a very toned down version of Columbia's makeup to work today, haha; the boss had pissed me off yesterday so I decided to push the boundries on what I was allowed to wear.
My best friend loathes Rocky with a passion, so it's nice to have someone to rant to :] haha)

I'm just a Sweet! Trans! Vestite! Frraaaahm Trrrrraaaanssssexxual... Transylvayne-ee-ahhhh, Ah-Ha!
(Have you seen the remix of this song Rocky Horror Nature Show? It's hilarious. It has Tim Curry's bits from the wild thornberries spliced into Sweet Transvestite.
*reads* ooh, I never thought of it, but yes I love the Roxy Superheroes. For exactly those reasons. My dream role on the stage is Magenta, and my voice is probably a little too deep for Janet, but that's exactly the sort of thing I'd love to sing onstage. I also agree about Whatever Happened To Saturday Night - nothing quite makes the cut after Meatloaf, haha. He rocks. Do you really think Roxy is more polished? I thought it was more rock'n'roll than the movie, at least it sounded like it had less production. It almost sounded live. I thought it was all rawer and a little more aggressive, but I do like the movie version's 'polish' as well. It's not really polished, just cleaner to my ears. I actually love the original London sound, but I think it did need beefing up a bit, especially for the movie. I also don't like that Richard isn't on Roxy - it can't be helped, and I love Bruce Scott's voice, I just prefer Ritz's. *draws deep breath*
Yeah, Sword of Damocles movie version isn't that memorable, though still enjoyable. Yeah, I don't find Rob extremely appealing sexually. Tim, sometimes he's mouthwatering, other times he just makes me laugh or scares the pants off me with his psycho face-pulling, haha. I actually find Riff Raff the hottest guy (don't judge me). I went in fully expecting to fall for Frank and came out loving Riff when I watched the movie. I'll never understand myself. But yeah Tim Curry, his voice is gaaaawwwwwjus. God. When he sings at the end he's so beautiful too, he sucks you right into the screen. I only just noticed that the whole "I'm Going Home" scene is a reference to the end of Sunset Blvd, and amazing movie I'm watching right now.
Nah it's on a blog of Meatloaf rarities somewhere, I'll find it for you if you like. Yeah I love iOTA, I've heard and seen his stuff on youtube and he has a really unique style. I love his songs 'Come Back For Me' and 'Don't Come Back' - mixed messages huh. Yesss... with that ST line, it took me ages to figure out "maybe the rain isn't really to blame"
Shocky is good stuff, but it's a totally different animal. I prefer not to think of it as a sequel. Dude I do that too! Angry makeup. When I'm super pissed I wear enormous green and white cat eyes and bright red lips. And weird clothes.
Bah, no time for Rocky haters. Well actually, as long as they're respectful and aren't just biased, I get if it's not their 'thing'.

(No, I'll have to look it up! haha.
Yeah, and Barry makes the best Brad, in my opinion. I prefer Meatloaf as Dr Scott.
I've been through phases with characters I liked. After the first time I watched it I liked Columbia, but then Nell's squeaky voice got a bit annoying after the then thousand times I watched it; I moved on to Frank (Who I still kinda love) but I've gone on to really appreciate all of the characters almost equally. Magenta is near the bottom though; I don't know, she just never appealed to me much as a character. It's weird to think I was all embarrassed about being attracted to a transvestite when I was new to Rocky. Yeah I kind of like Riff and Frank equally, I just tend to blab about Tim because that is what I'm used to talking about with fans, you know? Tim, Tim, Tim. When I first heard the Time Warp in context with the movie and heard Richard speaking and then "I remember!!! Doing the... etc etc" I was stunned, I really loved the rock and roll (No pun/reference intended.) that was oozing from Riff.
When I first watched it, I had to look up the thing about the rain on the net and see what the hell he was on about, haha.
That'd be great if you could find it!
I got fired by the way, haha; Mixture of the way I looked and ignoring customers and instructions. Thank God, I hated my job. Selling remote controlled toys in the middle of a shopping centre.
Yeah, It's an alright movie; I think they were trying to create a cult following for it but it just wasn't going to happen. As I said, I need to watch it again, I didn't quite catch on to half the things going on the first time. It wasn't as funny as Rocky either; I remember laughing my head off at the bedroom scenes, when Frank flips his lab coat up running in Sword of Damocles and when I realized that the Transylvanians were at the wedding. I only remember laughing at Brad saying 'just came to tell you how fabulous I am' in Shocky.
Yeah she's just sick of the whole thing; her parents loved it and quoted it to death while she was little.)

~Er I'm glad we caught you at home ah... could we use your phone? We're both in a... but of a hurry.
-Right!
(Yeah Barry is an amazing Brad. Though I love Cliff De Young in Shock Treatment, but personally I don't even think it's the same character. The original stage Brad in London, Christopher Malcolm, plays the policeman in Shock Treatment actually. I've only heard Meatloaf singing as Dr Scott, so I can't judge.
I looove Columbia, for some reason she reminds me of my sister. She's leggy and has short smooth hair and is cheeky. I do appreciate them all almost equally, but I just love Riff Raff and Magenta. Immediately I loved Magenta - I felt like she was just like me. I'm a bit overthetop, have a low voice and at that time I had way too much wild hair. And her clothes, I love. She's sort of a take on all the stock characters from old horror movies I love - the vampire, the madwoman, the creepy housekeeper etc.
Well several months before I found Rocky, I got hugely into the Cramps. Their singer Lux was a 6'3/6'4 transvestite and I was in love with him. I probably still am, ha. yeah I know, everyone loves Tim and expects you do too. Which we do but... I dunno. Also, I love Richard for making the whole thing as well. I was amazed when I saw RHPS because it was as if someone had got in my mind, got everything I loved and mashed it together in a way far more brilliant than I ever could.
Bah, I'll put the download link on your wall right away, yessir! Ugh, I need to find a job. I'm thinking of cinema usherette since my friend is doing that and says it's good... but I'd probably be fired for repeatedly singing Science Fiction ahahaha.
Yeah Shocky wasn't even his original idea, but I still love the music and the performances and the satire, though the plot is VERY thin. Shock Treatment does grow on you though, lots of its fans started out as 'meh'. I laughed a lot in Shocky, but it isn't hard to make me laugh. My laugh is weird. Haha
My dad is kind of conservative now in some ways but when he was a teenager, he lived in King's Cross and hung out with all the bohemians and drug crowd and said he saw Rocky Horror and even tried to write his own rock musical. He used to quote bits of Rocky to me as a kid but he never would tell me where they came from... the one I remember that he used to do was 'whatever happened to Fay Wray / that delicate satin-draped frame / as it clung to her thigh / how I started to cry / for I wanted to be dressed just the same!' and he always sung it hilariously. Haha)

Sorry about the very late reply but the Christmas holidays have been overwhelming, you know?
Yeah, like Riff Raff looks like the antagonist in the Film Nosferatu has stepped into another movie. The people that don't understand Rocky Horror don't get that it's a parody, just like 'the Scary Movie' series, but of the older B movies. And with more singing and transvestites haha. They're too focused on plot.
I applied to be an usherette but I missed their phone call about an interview then denied calling me when I rang back -_-
That's cool about your dad (: I started writing my own one too; It's a satire of musicals themselves. Stole the name "Musical the Musical" from an episode of Little Britain, haha.

[I was just thinking about you yesterday when I went through my comments! Don't worry about it. Is HSC highschool or something like? If it is, I thought you were in your twenties! I'm nearly twenty. I'm not currently completely obsessed with it, but I know it's there for when I get in the mood. I count it as an obsession because I haven't grown out of it, it's just cyclical. Did I tell you about Friday 13th? When I went to my first late night screening? I LOVE your Columbia outfit. Has a bit of a circus/carnival feel to my mind.
Go as Columbia - her makeup is amazing! But Cruella would be cool too. I'm more familiar with Columbia. Why don't you link me t a pic of the kind of Cruella makeup you'd go for? If I were you I'd actually go as 1973 Little Nell London-stage Columbia, with her long stripy shorts and suspenders. I think she looked fantastic. [link]
If you want I can dig up and email a pic of her makeup

And he's good for relieving my... Tension!
Just a sweet transvestite, from Transsexual, Transylvaniiaaaaaa aa-Hit it! Hit it!
(Yeah, HSC=my final exams. I'm eighteen this year. Yeah, I've found on the net people tend to assume they're talking to someone their own age.
No you didn't! Tell me all about it! I hope it went better than my first Rocky Screening.
Yeah, that's what I was going for. Because that's basically what Frank's mansion is: A freaky, sexed up circus. I'm still designing her jacket, so she gets that "ring leader" look to her.
Cruella makeup: [link]
So, either way I have to get rid of my eyebrows XD
Yes! I love that outfit too; The thing is I already own the screen outfit.

From Transsexual (Transylvaniaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
So, come up to the lab.
And... See what's on the slab.
I see you shiver with antici....
(Oh yeah I remember those! I was sure you were older than me, you seem so cool. haha I'd still consider you my age though, and people often assume I'm in my thirties as well. We're in the same general bracket.
It was fantastic, there's a photo of it on m deviantart, but there are many more where that came from. What we did was me, my sister and our friend we got up in the theatre and danced / sang / did a backing show for the cast onstage. We even joined in the cast orgy. We were a big hit - I even did a pantomime/dance for Science Fiction reprise while the cast took their bows! Yeah, I agree. You hit the spot.
You know you can cover over your eyebrows, I've seen many Columbias put wax or glue or other things on. It works very well if you do it right. That's lovely makeup. Do you own Cruella's outfit? I think you should go as Col, because I'd like to see it, but I also now that I think of it would really like to see either one. Do you have facebook by the bye?)

Wow, it's been a long time.
I ended up going as Edward Scissorhands. Completely different, but was great to be able to have a go at the makeup.
How's life been since we last talked? (:

...But not! The SYMPTOM!

The sword of Damocles is hanging
Over my head!
And I got a feeling someone's gonna be
Cutting the thread...
(Wow it really has. Did you photograph the makeup?
Well, a lot of things probably happened since then. Been buying more equipment, and getting more gigs as a singer, working on my look and stuff and starting to write songs with my sister. We've just started that. I'm also currently obsessed with Phantom of the Paradise, which I may have mentioned before. I went to a 50s b-movie triple feature the other night, and got really dressed up, it was awesome.
How are you?)

Don't you find it weird that Brisbane has one when Sydney doesn't?

Yeah I got sick of all the crap drawings I was finding of Richard in this pose so I decided this was the one to would prove I'm not all talk when I sit there and go "Pfft, I could do it better." Not trying to sound arrogant (:
Anyway, thanks again (: ~Jo
