Description
It was now the second week of spite camp. The first week passed by pretty quickly, kind of like how it had for magic class. Really, the whole thing had kind of a similar setup, minus the magic...not like it could be practiced during Warptide, anyway. After camping and dealing with Yittles with Osu, Reiya and Hermit, Frostfang was wondering what the next week would bring. As she and the other students arrived to this weeks lesson, Bulbrax and Wenn stop in front of the students, with Bulbrax ready to fill them in on what they'd be doing. Bulbrax presented the class with a choice, to either go after the weepers plaguing the town with storms, or go after the Hooklungs hooking gros in the lake.
"This week, we have two options for you. For those who prefer to swim and deal with the water, you’ll be dealing with the Hook Lung. The others will be teaming up with flight-able Wyngro to deal with Weepers." Bulbrax declared. Frostfang was familiar with the weepers, how they traveled in storm clouds and caused depressive rains....but she had never heard of the Hooklungs before. So she and some of the other students decided to deal with the fishy spites in the lake.
"Okay now for the Hook Lungs..." Bulbrax exclaimed. "Hook Lungs are water-faring spites that terrorize swimmers and finns, snaring their feet and tails and pulling them down into depths with their hook teeth that detach and snag you on a wire. Yes you heard me right… it’s like reverse fishing. Except this fish is fishing for you. However, their hooks and lines are ideal for our fishing, so fisher-gros will pay high dollar for their materials to use, rather than use the standard quality lines and hooks that are available commercially. Disgusting. WHO WOULD WANT TO USE PARTS OF A SPITE TO FISH WITH?" Bulbrax yelled. "Ohhhh, do we get to dissect things this week?" Wenn asked excitedly. Bulbrax sighed, disgusted.
"…...Gross. Anyway, I'm honestly surprised you guys have not had a hook lung appear in Palamino Lake before. It's one of the largest lakes in the northwest territory! This town is so strange... Anyways, there have been reports of gros getting hooked recently so we're going to need to get rid of this quickly before anyone else gets hurt.. or worse. So listen up: It is recommended that strong swimmers, and gros with water magic assist in hunting these spites. However, if you do not fit those criteria, you may still assist by rowing boats out onto the lake, casting out nets attached to buoys, and handing out spears to those in the water. Alternatively, you may join the others in hunting the other prey this week too if you can't deal with this one."
Harpoons were given to those dealing with the Hooklungs. And Wenn took some time to show the students Bulbrax's notes on the spites. They were rather disturbing looking...And according to the notes, enjoyed the fear of drowning...smelled of rotten fish, and had hooks that were valued by fisher gro....Frostfang wasn't sure why they'd want to fish with spite parts, but thanked Wenn for the info. After that, those who decided to get rid of the underwater spites got into boats and headed out into Palimo lake. She recognized Reiya and Osu on some of the boats, as they all headed to the middle of the lake. Once they got there Frostfang grabbed the harpoon she had been given, and slowly got off the boat and swam down.
Frostfang looked around for any trace of the spite, but in the murky waters couldn't find anything. She saw a few gros swimming in the distance, looking for one as well. After a little bit, Frostfang went back up for air. She wasn't a Finn, which would make looking for the underwater spites a bit more tricky then normal, but she was still determined to find one of the things and get rid of it. Taking a deep breath, she went under the water again, swimming down when she saw a glint in the darker water below. Dodging as quickly as she could, she felt something whiz past her ear. She looked back down to see the Hook lung staring at her. Before she could react, another hook went into her leg, the Hook lung threatening to drag her and drown her in the depths of the lake.
Frostfang struggled, trying to free herself from the hooklung pulling her to a possible demise. Hitting that thing in the head helped kill it, right? Playing dead was also an option, but there's no way she'd be able to hold her breath that long, and it would be hard to yank the hook out while it was dragging her...so stabbing it was. She raised her harpoon to stab it, but right as Frostfang was about to strike, a brown wyngro swooped in, stabbing it with a harpoon. A dark blue and pink gro helped pull the hook out of Frostfangs leg. It hurt a lot, but with Frostfang free she quick went up for air, before joining the other two in fighting the spite. The other two swam after it, and Frostfang soon caught up and cornered it. The brown gro had stabbed his harpoon into its side, and it was frantically trying to escape...Frostfang swam up to it, raising her harpoon and finishing it off.
Soon, the three were dragging it's corpse onto the shore. Removing the fishing hooks from it's mouth for any fisher gro who might want them, as well as for proof they had slain this spite. It didn't take long until Wenn ran over to what was left of it and started poking and prodding it. Bulbrax came over with a sigh and pulled her away before she could get to dissect the spite. Frostfang went to get her leg bandaged up, taking one of the Hook lungs hooks as a souvenir...and a reminder to get stronger.
