If Digimons were real, this would be my companion and its evolution line. Speaking of real digimon, here's my take on some major aspects of this franchise...

Tamers and Digivices

In this world, Tamers usually are those humans who had an affinity with animals and were deemed as worthy by Homeostasis to reach the Digital World. Upon being contacted by Homeostasis, they receive a Digivice linked to their respective digimon partners, usually one in most cases. This powerful device can artificially digievolve a digimon, store things within a pocket space and find space-time anomalies, like portals between dimensions. Back to the tamers, these usually range between 8 and 15 years old, but they can keep their Digimons up to their 21th birthday. After that, they won't be dependant of their bond, with their digimon returning to the Digital World. However, they can still communicate through electronic devices or the Internet.

The Origin of the Digital World

In this reality, the digimon began as self-conscious computer viruses, but it wasn't until the entity known as ''Homeostasis'' found them, that they didn't started evolving into the beings known today. Seeing great potential on them, Homeostasis created a parallel world connected to Earth via the Internet, where they could exist as their own independent selves and quickly evolved into the first digimon. Still retaining traits of their original virtual existence, Digimons would evolve based on humanity's universal culture, taking many forms that ressemble actual animals, machinery and mythological figures. In fact, the ''magic'' that some digimon can perform (Which they call ''Sorcery''), has been described high level programming used to warp reality around them and allow their supernatural abilities to actually exist. As another fact, the Digital World's flow of time is a bit faster than Earth, as one Earth Day equals to one Digital Week.

Although most of the Digital World is ruled by the law of the strongest, there's a certain hierarchy developed generations ago with the intention of balancing the forces of order and chos. It's considered to start with the twelve Deva, who serve the Four Holy Beasts (Xuanwumon, Zhuqiaomon, Qinglongmon and Baihumon) and these are in turn supervised by Three Great Angels (Seraphimon, Cherubimon and Ophanimon), the closest beings to Homeostasis, who they also call their ''God''. While the Four Holy Beasts rule over the main world and the Three Great Angels supervise everything from the Kernel (Which can be considered the Digital World's equivalent of Heaven), there's another digimon god that commands death and is the one who decides what digimons are reincarnated or sent to a ''dark place''. Interestingly enough, Qinglongmon, has a small group that he leads, the Three Great Dragons along with Goddramon and Holydramon. These three ultimate-level dragon digimon have a great duty, as they must ensure their ''fourth'' member, Megidramon, never escape and spreads the ''Digital Hazard'' everywhere.

Digivolution

The natural methods of reaching digivolution are constant training or absorbing large quantities of data, mainly from defeating and killing another digimon. While reaching the Adult level is not rare, going beyond that into the Perfect level is only achieved by a low number of digimons before death, while the Ultimate level is said to only be granted by Homeostasis itself. There's other alternatives like ''Jogress Evolution'' which fuses two digimons into a powerful combination, the ''Mode Change'' which is an alternate form of the same level, ''Dark Evolution'' which is fueled by a powerful negative or sinister influence and even the ''Death Evolution'', triggering a forced resurrection, usually as an Undead or Ghost type.

PS: If this would be made into a story, I would have the final antagonist be Chronomon. He was the first digimon to possess a tamer, but after he died during a battle, Chronomon swore revenge on both the Human and Digital Worlds. In the following years, he managed to recruit powerful ''allies'' like GrandDracmon and Astamon. Their goal is to fuse the Seven Great Demon Lords into the incarnation of darkness, Ogudomon, as well free the evil dragon Megidramon.

As the forces of good and order fight against these two monsters, the clash of powers will be of such magnitude, that the Digital World will collapse into itself until its reduced to nothing, but GranDracmon is planning on making the ''Big Reset'' happens. This event will entail the birth of a new Digital World and since Chronomon wishes to die along the old world, GrandDracmon will escape into Earth's Internet, being save from the battle and then return to rule over a new world where the Holy Beasts or Angels don't exist anymore.
