(My entry for the Cosmic Corsair Original Character Competition)

There is a saying, along the space lanes that run from the prosperous ore belts of Cartagena Nova and the Colonised Systems: “Beware the Hellstrom. Beware Captain Seta”.

The Hellstrom asteroid was once a refinery, protected by a garrison from Cadiz Minor. When an alien fungus found its way on board, and began hideously mutating any crewman that breathed its spores, the authorities of Andalusian space quarantined the Hellstrom and abandoned the poor souls aboard to die.
Only… They didn’t oblige.
As the outbreak took hold, some perished, but many had equipped themselves with breathing apparatus. Sealed in their suits, they were protected from the fungus and remained unaffected. Despite this, they were still not permitted to leave. The crew of the Hellstrom were gunned down by Andalusian patrol ships as soon as they tried to escape.
Furious at this betrayal, the Hellstrom garrison, led by their captain, Seta, worked with the refinery crew to mobilise the asteroid. Heavy thrusters were constructed and the rock blasted its way through the quarantine, out into deep space.
The Hellstrom was thought to be gone forever, but three years later, it appeared in orbit over Eos Pegasus and rained space debris on the mining colonies there. Space debris loaded with the alien fungus.
As the miners succumbed to monstrous mutation, and chaos tore Eos Pegasus apart, the crew of the Hellstrom swept in and stripped the settlements clean, taking all the riches and resources they could carry.
Captain Seta’s reign of terror had begun….

Weapon.
The alien fungus that infected the Hellstrom was lethal to most. The “lucky” ones, such as Seta, were twisted into deformed aberrations. Seta, now wracked with this fungus, is a walking bio-weapon. His head, upper chest and entire right arm are spore factories, jetting out death and mutation. The mere threat of Seta making planetfall is usually enough for a settlement to simply send what he demands directly to the Hellstrom, without question.

Hat.
Seta wears a type of morion helmet, decorated with blood red plumage from a Prospero hawk.
(Seta’s whole design is based on garb and armour worn by Spanish Conquistadors)

Crest.
As part of his revenge, Seta’s chosen symbol is a metal cast of his former visage, which he carries with him into battle. He wants to be sure that ALL know the true face of the man bringing terror to Andalusian space.
