Wish they had done a few more background stories about the different heroes to build the universe a bit more up. Instead we got 5min background story per. character. Besides Wonderwoman who had her own. Super and Bat we all know inside out by now. Be it trough comics or movies.

Plus, what is up with their multi-earth/universe idea. There is a Flash in this movie. But is not the same Flash as in the TV series. I bet a few casual movies goers might have been confused about that. At least Marvel keeps their series in the same universe as the movies(as far as I can tell).

The penguins from that movie are my fondest memory of it from my childhood too, they still look bad-ass. Tim Burton knew how to bring the dark, weird and wonderful world of Batman to life.
I typically stay away from DC movies these days seeing as they started playing the short-game since coming to the realization that their movies are outmatched by Marvel in terms of quality. Whats unfortunate is that it doesn't have to be so, if they just stayed true to the characters and the source material they would be as good if not better than the Marvel movies in terms of quality and likability.
But no, some bonehead studio executives get the dollar signs in their brains over the idea of changing certain things and everything goes to complete and utter shit real fast. That's where the Batman movies fell drastically in quality due to the need to market to children so they could sell toys. Newsflash boneheads: I loved the first two batman movies far more compared to the other ones as a kid. I'm almost 30 years old now and the better quality of the first two Batman movies is even more apparent because they are far darker than the later ones, thus making them truer to the Batman comics.
Removing Tim Buron's influence over the Batman movies was the biggest mistake they made seeing as he knew how to make the dark world of Batman into something that everyone could enjoy.
Speaking of which, does anyone know for sure what Jack Nicholson says in that one scene as the Joker? I think its "I'm of a mind to make some mookie."

The Batman franchise fell apart after they decided to reject the realism of the Christopher Nolan films and make it into an absolute shitefest for Affleck fanboys who wax lyrical about him being the best Batman ever (Keaton, Bale and Conroy say otherwise).

As someone who loves both the Burton films and the Nolan films, I agree with you completely that DC movies are being outshined by Marvel in terms of entertainment value and quality.

Aldartha In reply to LexingtonDeville [2017-12-28 07:46:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree that the Nolan films with Bale are as good as they are because of 1) Bale's portrayal as Batman and 2) Nolan's realistic style. Having to paraphrase JJ here from one of the video's on his YouTube channel since he put it so well: Batman is a character defined by his rage, his all consuming need for revenge and making sure that the bad guys get theirs. Ben Affleck cannot do angry and he looks so damn impotent when he tries. The success of Argo was most likely the main reason for him being cast as Batman as well as trying to rope in his fan-base for their movies, which again comes down to the studio executives making decisions based off of finances rather than creativeness.

I have never spent a dime on the movies with Affleck staring as Batman and I never will due to how ineffective his portrayal of the character is compared to others who came before him such as Keaton and Bale. Affleck's fanboys need to pull their lips from his ass and realize that what they are sucking down their throats is shit.

Try Batman: Mask of the Phantasm That's a really good DC movie

Aldartha In reply to GrummanF-14 [2017-12-09 08:09:56 +0000 UTC]

Well that's an animated movie that was done in the same spirit behind the animated series (which was also great) so it makes sense that its a good movie. But that was in 1993, I'm speaking more about the DC movies that are done today in live-action. The DC live-action movies have nothing on the animated ones, I think we can all agree on that at least.

I guess we'll see how good those are if they actually happen, I really miss the animated show style though. That series had a really nice feel to it that I could really immerse myself in when I was a kid. Although some of the dialogue between Harley and Joker was really not meant for kids if you know what I mean.

Β  Blame the unfathomably daft minded executives at Warner Bros. for intransigently insisting on an under two hour running time.Β  So much info was omitted from that film, that the whole film ended upΒ feeling like a contrivance.Β  At least that'sΒ how it felt to me.Β Β

Β  You see,Β  here is the awful ugly truth, that I thinkΒ devout DC fans just don'tΒ want to admit, Warner hasΒ already ran the franchise right into the ground.Β  That absolutely pathetic opening weekend gross, may be a causal indicator of doom for the fledgling franchise.Β

Β  I agree.Β  DC has a pantheon of incredible characters at their disposal.Β  Characters that are truly iconic and have stood the test of time and have had a fantastic array of stories to support them.Β  These characters are literally cherished by comic book fans around the world and that is what I think the current screen writers at Warner Bros fail to recognize.Β

Β  The screen writers at Warner just don't seem to be able to intuit that the 'core' essences of these characters have alreadyΒ been established, tried and tested for decades.Β  There have been entire psychological complexes constructed around some of these characters, some of them are pretty damn deep to.Β  These characters already work fine as they are because they have been meticulously crafted with dynamic motivations and conflictions.Β  Then some monkey in aΒ suit (whom have probably never actually read a comic in their entire goddamn lives) decides that these characters aren't contemporary enough and some "changes" need to be made and undermine everything that makes these characters work so well in the first place.Β

Β  The current screen writers at Warner have no 'reverence' for these characters.Β  I think that's at the very heart of the matter.

We get i, you don't like the DCEU. This is just picking at the scab at this point. ( on top of that didn't people get on DC's case back in the 90s for Batman Returns being too dark?)

Personally I just hope Zack Snyder can come back from this and make a decent movie. I like 300 I like Watchmen, Guardians of Ga'Hoole is an underrated gem. I do think the guy can make a decent movie. And I think most of the hate people have for him is overblown to the point of absurdity.Β

But after bvs and Justice League I'm not sure if he will ever again. Schumacher only directed one big movie since his failure of a Batman movie.Β
