I was going to say something short, pithy and smart. However I think I will address this a bit more honestly.
Β As an artist the idea that art needs to be constrained is an anathema to what art can and should be, And freedom of expression Β through art whether it be a giant jar of piss with crucified jesus on the cross, or Charlie Hebdo's portrayal of Muhammad should not be regulated by those who are offended.
Freedom of ideas and and expression through art should be the default condition, and asking anyone to stop doing their art because it offends you is stupid, and leads to people burning books and the dictation of "acceptable" by the masses. Β Your offence does not dictate how someone should and can express their views..
However. You have a choice, You don't have to like what he says. Or artwork portraying the brutal murder of an innocent child. But in the end I would die for his right to continue to express his views. I don't have to come to his page ever again. But I do have the right to express my dismay and distaste. Just as I would express my views vocally to the Westboro Baptist Church picketing a soldiers funeral.
I will however express my own opinion of this and it is summed up simply as. "This is trolling at its finest" Β Nobody takes a beloved character as that is, And does shit like this unless they wanted horrible comments. it was puerile and means spirited. Β
This was not funny. and it puts his little Hamster character in the position of being a malevolent murderous monster. He has tainted that character of his own creation as a little Hannibal Lector forever. I wont and I don't think anyone here will look at that character as anything but a child murdering monster from now on.
It will always be wearing a dead girls face for me. And in every way it was and his right to that to his character. Β But I do wonder if he would feel if people commissioned art of HIS characters being fed into a wood chippers and similarly eviscerated.
It is always abit different to see your own art treated in the same way. But something tells me he will give no shits either way. Perhaps it would be cool to see Little victory beaten to mush by a block of ham and a can of easy cheese?Β
