Seriously, how are "lightcrossguards", especially ones like those, supposed to help in a duel? I've seen the model up close and see there's an considerable gap between the crossguards and the main blade, so how I would see is if the wielder tried to catch an opposing lightsaber, it would redirect the blow down to slice off the crossguard all together. At best that would simply ruin the crossguard and make it useless in the first place. At worst, the power cell for the crossguard would be individually powered and would stay active, so the severed smaller saber would slice through your own hand.

I'm pretty sure all new Star Wars movies - by law - are required to have new iterations of lightsaber weapons and fighting styles.

No, no, no. The weapon would be a set of nunchucks, except that each nunchuck is actually a lighsaber handle. So it's two lightsabers chained together. And you'd grab the cylinder handles.
At least, you would until you lopped off your own arm from trying to use them in combat.

I don't think it's very practical considering how Jedi fight. Maybe if the guard proceeded to circle around into a disc shape, then it might help, but odds are with all the reckless flailing lightsaber wielders do, they'll just cut their own hands off with it...
