Actually, Stephen Colbert has an excellent counterpoint to your argument thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos⦠The hilt-beams extend inside of the hand-guards, so a clashing saber would be stopped by them. Alternatively, in the lore there exist a handful of materials that can actually resist the beam of a lightsaber.
