It's in relation to panel two, when you're to be wondering why there aren't more 1st person action platform games.

Game wasn't that bad, but not seeing your character in relation the the Environment was a big problem with First Person Platformers. I wouldn't pay $60 for this game, but $20-$30 sounds decent for this game.

Eh, it's the first game for me that actually gets the whole "I CAN SEE MY BODY" thing right. You can see your arms and your body as in real life. Rather than you look down and nothing's there, or something. All it needs now is hair blowing into the line of vision every now and then :D
(Though I've never played it, I've just watched people play it ... Which is why I'm not commenting on gameplay, and instead graphics-y type stuff~)

SquirtSapphire In reply to ??? [2010-01-09 00:02:58 +0000 UTC]

This is great. I really liked the game, but everything you said here is VERY true. I lost count how many times I fell off edges, jumped into unknown electric fences, or completely misjudged jumps. Or I'd get SO close to doing perfect, and really screw something up, right at the end, and have to go back and do it all over again. But it was fun.
The only parts I really had trouble was the gun parts, because I'm absolutely no good when it comes to games with aim; at which point, I would hand the controller to my boyfriend and he had a blast killing every living thing, like all those other shooting games on Xbox that he plays. I beat it in 2 days, only a few hours of play, but I had a blast. The time trials are a huge challenge for me though. I tend to fall off a lot of edges
One last comment. At the end of the game, I definitely thought Faith was going to jump, reach for the helicopter, and miss, falling to her death from the tallest building

Sorry for the enormous comment Awesome picture though, loved it

Haha, I'm amused. I played the game twice and had to trade it in to Gamestop. It made me motion sick, I couldn't sleep right after I played it. But everything looked cool.

I love your comic on it though, made me chuckle.

people who complain about the fighting system are probably those who are used to the super ultra easy controls of modern games. its sooo easy to do anything in video games now...the game literally takes the player by the hand to do ANYTHING. its always written "press x" or "press B" or "press A" then when the player presses A the character does a super awesome destructive move or whatever. In mirror's edge they don't take you by the hand. its actually all you that is doing all the combat and movements. its so amazing and challenging yes, but thats the beauty of it. and it makes me SICK to see people bash it because they suck at playing it!!

CHALLENGE, ever heard of it people?! perhaps you forgot about it? older video game generations used to have a lot. or perhaps you never knew that generation?

Oohhh... I know. It irritates the heck out of me to have to read dialogue with instructions (to jump, press x). I KNOW! I READ THE F-ING INSTRUCTION MANUEL! STFU.
I suppose it'd be handy if you bought the game on e-bay and it didn't come with the original manuel though....

what i dont like, is people saying THE GAME SUCKS because they didn't like it. I'd rather hear and read people say "I didn't like the game because I didn't undertand how to play it" or "i didnt like it, i did understand how to play it, but it just wasn't my type". Or anything on these lines. but THIS GAME SUCKS or THIS GAME IS BAD just makes me frustrated.

the0Edge [2009-12-07 20:34:48 +0000 UTC]

lol...so when you guys run or walk, you see yourselves in 3D?

mirrors edge is just like in real life. it feels like in real life when you run or walk. in real life, you don't see your feet, and you don't see yourself relative to the environment; instead, you FEEL it! it's just instinct and you know how to walk and run and feel your feet because you got used to it. its the same thing in mirrors edge, and getting used to it doesn't take that much time. you just gotta do it, and be good at that kind of thing. comments about the game sucking because "you dont see your body relative to the environment" are just ridiculous. and one last thing: you sucking at a game does not make it not good guys!!

One of my friends lent that game to my boyfriend he played for an entire night and finished it.
It was amusing because he didnt want the game to "win" (IE misjudging a jump or being shot at)

Great fun, didnt like the cut scenes so much but it is a cool form on animation/art.

Ah yes my boy is a huge Halo freak. SO when he picked up a gun he went all weird and was requestiong the game to give him some grenades.

Imyself LOVE to watch people play games. Unless its fighting games then I must play and kick butt.
The new Soul Caliber game (is it 4 or 5? I forgot) I whomped not only my boyfriends butt, but my roommates and then my friends. It was a fun night since 1 of my roommates is a hardcore gamer and was playing Soul C for 3 straight days unlocking stuff and laying the smackdown.

So when it came down to it I beat 5 roommates(including boyfriend) and 3 friends. AHAHAH. I was a god that night.

Anyways long story short: pretty much no one expected me to beat not only them ,since a good chunk of the people I know play waaaayyyy more games then me, but to actually not resort to button mashing. I knew my characters moves.

Well, I enjoy the game, but I know where this is coming from ^^

Your style is very simplistic, but strangely detailed in backgrounds using only a few lines. I like it.

This is exactly how i felt playing the game!!!

I died so much, and got so frustrated i ended up making faith jump off the sides of buildings because i got a sick satfifaction of watching her die. *evil smirk*

I did love the in game look, the cut scene where just tacky and like they where from a complety differnet game, and i didn't care at all for any of the characters by the end of it.

Hoping they fix all of these problems for number 2!

I hated the ending 'cause Jacknife died. <____<.

That, and yeah. It was very anti-climatic. But SO pretty, I just love the environments. Hopefully, Mirror's Edge 2 will do a better job at the story. And bring Jacknife back. As a zombie. Terrible idea, but he's so <3.

Yeah, even as the villain, Jacknife was the most likeable character in the game.

Meh, I never died any deaths due to awareness issues. I mean, the game's field of vision is less than 75 degress from what it seems, but then again I didn't play on an HDTV (widescreen) so meh. My deaths were caused by getting chased by a SWAT Team from hell and not knowing where to go with the vague level design, and falling off buildings due to Faith's reluctance to grab onto the thing I told her to.

Other than that, it was fun, I just wished for more actual free-roaming and running rather than cop-dodging and indoor puzzle-solving.

Kurohitori [2009-06-19 02:35:56 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I found the biggest problem to be accidentally falling off the edge, think I was going to land on the roof top and roll, instead of grabbing onto the edge.

That and trying to take on too many enemies...and trying to steal a gun...and taking on a huge ex-wrestler...

My sister got that game and got pissed because she kept getting shot at... Lol... and you forgot about the fact that you couldn't see your enemies because you can't see around you lol. #1 reason Why I'd fail... Everything lol.

Sorry for coming back to the comic, but I just wanted to say something...that whole "being unable to see your character in the relation to the environment" is probably why I don't play many FPSes, if at all. Just a slight annoyance.

I must say, I have read many of these and often find you to be a very harsh critic. I feel sorry for the games even if they are that bad. Glad I did not make them. Funny and inspiring. I would hate to think of the flaws you might point out in Crysis.
