I have to thank you. Time and again, you have saved me from wasting my money on games by writing an honest review. I still think you should freelance as a game critic.

Apparently there's problems seeing your character in relation to their environment.

Number 6 is like Love number 8... whee....

I HATED the fact that the game looked sooo pretty.... but the cutscenes were like the eSurance or whatever.
and it was so annoying because you could die so easily and have no idea why. then you need to do it all over again. and not sure how to not make the same mistake because you didnt know the mistake was made. T_T;;

I liked the game.
I never died because of bad game mechanics.

You forgot the 'scream in frustration as you miss a jump for the nth time just because you hit the jump button a second too soon' part.

But I guess that's a staple of all platform games.

While I haven't had the opportunity to play Mirror's Edge, I can relate to the annoyances of platforming and misjudging my cover in first-person titles. Love this comic.

I played Mirror's Edge, and as far as the 3rd & 4th box comments go above, that's true. Killed myself at least a half dozen times by backing over the edge. The game itself is primarily reaction, reflex, & ability to think on your feet. If you don't normally like those kind of games, then you can say meh to it. Nice job JollyJack.

The whole falling part of the review is true. The whole not knowing where you are in relation to the environment is true. The whole getting-shot-from-lord-knows-where is also true. All in all, it's quite realistic and pretty. Cut scenes were too cartoony and let down in my opinion because the rest of the game looked damn near real.

lmao XD, yeah i got screwed, but i played the game on easy with 15 fps(MAX) cause i really really wanted to play it...

the ending was disappointing, but i enjoyed the rest of the game...and atleast there was one boss battle...

and not seeing your legs wasn't that bad , though i did get screwed quite a few times...

Everyone enjoys fighting like fools on the internet, anyways.

Lol, I myself haven't played the game, but the whole style is kinda meant to make it harder.. Except, seasoned gamers would get annoyed because they're not used to having realism to such an extreme.

Especially the hiding thing. Most common characters can duck right behind and not have their arse shot off. But then again they also have horrible damage or collisions, so they wouldn't feel it anyways.

i agree whole heatedly. i mean, i got the game for my PC, and though it meets all the graphic and system requirements, doesn't play the game very well, and it's even a new computer, not like it's old and so full of crap that it's can't function.
anyways, i'm screwed because i'm still in the tutorial and for whatever reason, i can't punch faith's buddy's(the other chick with some ridiculous name not much different from faith...like melody or something, i dunno)hand. I try to punch the hand, and no matter how close i got it wouldn't work. Whatever. so i decided to skip that bit and just start the game. now, i can't get past one of the first level-y things because you meet some guards, and they chase you and when you can't see what is directly around you, a couple flights of steps become your grave. good times, good time.
I really hope a friend of mine can tinker with the game and get it running on my compy soon.

as for the comic, everything that you say is true and i've barely played the game thus far.

It's a wonderful game, and people should definitely give a go at it, it just wasn't what we all expected.
I didn't think the few minor screw-ups in the game took away from the enjoyment (minus the bloody ending)

Whatever people are ranting here, I enjoyed the game. Sure, inability to see your character in relation to environment caused trouble at about two points of the game (for me), but nevertheless, Mirror's Edge was great. Although the story was bit of a disappointment.

ANYWAY WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS MIRROR'S EDGE IS A GOOD GAME. Despite it's (obvious) flaws.

wow this whole debate about whether this game is good or not is hilarious.

I haven't played it and i didn't bother to actually go through and read them all, because as far as I'm concerned it's a matter of opinion. It's like, I can't say "I don't like chocolate ice cream, therefore it is bad." That ould be false.

A rue statement would be "I don't like chocolate ice cream, other people do. Therefore, I have my own opinion that isn't necessarily true for every one on the entire planet."

I'm sure if I played this game I'd have an opinion too. but seriously. Who cares.

lol and i agree...i knew i wasn't gonna like the game because of the p.o.v. but i attempted to suspend my disbelief and play through...twas impossible to do so.

And honestly, this game didn't break any boundries in gaming, it didn't raise the bar for action platformers...they just created an action platformer then put the camera in the character's head...nothing special. Boundry breaking doesn't come from camera views, it comes from the storyline, graphics, that sort of stuff...

Absolutely agreed. I think that's the universal opinion about ME. I played the demo then rented it, and realized how completely unplayable the game was (for me) due to being forced to do it all in first person. Granted, it's original and unique, but it wasn't fun.

austen55555 In reply to ??? [2009-03-10 14:06:34 +0000 UTC]

agreed. But although the gameplay and p.o.v. could use some improvements, I still really enjoyed that the game broke from the norm. It's one of the only 1rst person games that doesn't involve testosterone fueled mescle heads mindlessly plowing down hoards of generic enemies...

oh, you are probably going to get flamed by some retards, just warning you. Good job for inspiring an uproar in the diehard fans, causing internet arguements is awsomelly fun, I aplaud you 8D
