There's quite a joke to this, as it turns out, painting a ship while in space is said to be impossible, as paint won't stick to a cold surface while out in space, so weather the writers Rob Grant and Doug Naylor knew this or not sure is funny

Being in space doesn't make it cold. In fact it is hotter for objects when in sunlight than it is on the hottest day on Earth at the same distance from the sun. About 250F (121C).

I'm exceptionally lucky. I'm in the US. There was ONE channel that picked up Red Dwarf over here - a small public broadcasting station in my city. Played Red Dwarf on Sunday nights. Love that show so much.

That used to be my job. In the US Navy, though, not in space. It fucking sucks. Can't tell you how often I'd been needle-gunning some pain to have an explosion of rust hit my goggles and respirator. Fuck that. All of it.
