Did you know they tried to make an American Red Dwarf, with Terry Farrell as Cat? I've only seen bits and pieces. It was not a good idea.

To be honest Terry Farrell in a cat suit would be just fine with me. Β Juuuuuust fine.
On the other hand the whole concept of an American Red Dwarf was botched badly. Β The producers were convinced the idea alone was a license to print money, but never realized it was the writing that made Red Dwarf amazing. Β Some way into the production someone realized this and actually brought Doug Naylor over to be a script doctor. Β His reaction was basically, there's no hope. Β They'd taken every interesting idea from the original series and threw it out the window. Β He figured the only real way to save the series was to re-write it completely, which he supposedly did,Β but they didn't like it because American Producers are frankly mental.Β
I've seen the whole pilot. Β It's terrible, in spite of the inclusion of Robert Llewellyn and what I believe is actually very good casting of Jane Leeves as Holly. Β
(I'm not going to get into the argument of Norman Lovett v/s Hattie Hayridge, both of whom I loved for different reasons. Β I feel that in later seasons Hattie was criminally underused. Β She's delightful in interviews. But Norman is hysterically funny too.)
(Robert Llewellyn's "Carpool" web series is a great insight into not only the cast of Red Dwarf, but a number of other celebrities. Β A fun waste of an afternoon on YouTube.)

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Terry Farrell. Was just a little bit of trivia, and you answered that with quite a bit of very interesting information! Thanks for sharing, that was a neat read. I'll have to look Carpool up on YouTube sometime.

Carpool is fun. Β
Did you know there were actually twoΒ RD pilots in America? Β The one I saw was awful. Β I hear the other was worse but can't confirm.

Hee, nice!
I've met the actor, he's a cool guy. Let my friend reenact the food-ordering scene ("FISH!") with him on video.

Good to know. I'm meeting him & Norman Lovett (Holly) at a con in October. Just Craig Charles to meet after that since I met Chris Barrie a couple years ago & Robert Llewellyn when I was a kid. Both of them are cool guys too. Chris Barrie did the Rimmer salute to a group of us when his manager was dragging him away for a Q&A The special long salute too because it annoyed the manager lol

Haha, awesome! I've met Chris and Robert too, but only the other Holly. They're a great lot!
Craig is pretty elusive though!

I briefly met the female Holly when I met Chris but it was like 2 seconds as she was running off for her part of the Q&A. I also met the guy who did the artwork for the magazines & VHS covers. It's the main thing I love about Nor-Con they can usually get people involved in Star Trek, Red Dwarf & Doctor Who as guests.

DEFCON's the one I found them in, but it's fairly small. Last year they held it in a hard-to-reach venue and focused almost entirely on GoT (which I'm not into) and mostly had super-obscure non-GoT guests (e.g. someone who had 1 background appearance in a Doctor Who ep), so there was very little there for me, especially as they have the same stall owners every time.Β It's moving back to its old place this year though, so hopefully it'll be fun again!

Nor-Con is fairly small as far as cons go but they took a year off last year & have come back bigger this year. They've had to move 3 times because they won't stop growing lol. Last time I went they had 2 of the Dwarfers, the Borg Queen herself, 1 of the Power Rangers who was a total dick to everyone (though if you watch Linkara's stuff you already knew that about him) & Ben Miller. This year they have 2 more Dwarfers, the 5th Doctor & some people from Primeval which I never got into. They were also gonna have Miriam Margolyes but she backed out because of filming. I just hope I can remember how to get to where they've moved to. Only been there twice & both times I got lost lol

he's kind of airheaded, but in a good way. Also, the actor plays him very stylish and cool. I think he auditioned while wearing some of his grandfather's old suits, if I'm not mistaken.
