This is too much of a downer.
And not something you want to find after a friend tells you his mother was diagnosed with lymphoma.

I swear I remember seeing that block in a pokemon movie once too. Something that looked a lot like it. And it was one of the first 3-4 movies I think.

Although this is not a horror game, it scares me. And I say the dialogues. Makes me said something like: "Oh god, I'm back in this place again, and Glados is pissed off. There will be hard fellings If I meet her again! DX"

Damn... didn't think of the shear amount of moon rock dust and assorted crap Chell got splashed with in Portal 2 till I saw this pic.
Bit of a downer ending when you think about it.

Not much more to know about them.
Caroline ended up as GLaDOS, so just look at her.
Cave died of moon poison.

I dont need to know about their ends, I wanna know more about them before that. eg, how things progressed, exactly where Chell fits in in the whole picture, etc etc... all those loose ends that people have been theorizing about and making their own explanations of. I want to see the official valve version... in a game XD

Valve had a comic released for that, and combined with what you hear about in-game...
Chell's parents worked in Aperture, and were part of the GLaDOS project. Every time GLaDOS woke up, it took a tenth of a picosecond before it tried to kill someone. From there on they began to start sticking cores on GLaDOS, including Wheatley, the 'blue core' to slow down GLaDOS' processing speed and make her easier to manage. The last core to be stuck on was the conscience core, which was Caroline after Cave Johnson passed away. They shoved her brain into the core and used it to moderate GLaDOS' behaviour, to make her more science-oriented.
However, GLaDOS always was a very sadistic computer, and combined with her newly-discovered love of science, led to some very painful experiments. E.g. how many people in the control room were immune to neurotoxin? Answer: None.
How hard would it be to run the facility alone? Answer: Very easy. This is where she got the new test subjects (AKA Chell's parents and all the other scientists) to enter stasis. From there they procreated at some point, and thus Chell was born into the facility and had no life outside it. She did not know her parents (GLaDOS believes that forming relationships with other test subjects leads to a biased testing environment) and thus all the jibes directed at her made some sense.

It's actually pretty pessemistic. Look at the nosebleed - moon rock poisoning. Cave Johnson died of that.

And the bullets, gels, shrapnel, and explosive decompression did nothing?

battlebrothertherix In reply to DolphinSilverwolf [2012-06-30 11:25:32 +0000 UTC]
The Aperture jumpsuit is designed to protect test subjects from a certain amount of bullets. The emancipation grille after each chamber also emancipated all of the bullets left in her and sealed the wounds. Same with any shrapnel. After the last fight with Wheatley GLaDOS also fixed her up while she and Caroline were still one and the same.
The moon rock poisoning is from the portal gel.
"The briefs said we couldn't aford to buy seven dollars of moon rocks, let alone seven thousand! Went ahead, bought 'em anyway. Mixed em up into a gel, and it turns out ground moon rocks are pure poison. The good news is they make a great portal conductor."
The propulsion gel has no side-effects, but the repulsion gel is about to make her skeleton come apart, though constant inter-portal travel mean that her skeleton can withstand the effects, having already stood up to multiple simultaneous conductions. The moon rock gel, or portal gel, however, has no cure.
Oh, and during the explosive decompression she still had air, flying out the hole in space, and that provided her with a thin and painful atmosphere, long enough for GLaDOS to regain control and drag her back in.

Since this is in the same world as the Half-life games (you see a black mesa advert in portal 1) she'll probably get run over by the combine harvester from HL2.

Not very likely to run into the Combine post Portal 2, if my research is accurate, Chel had been in suspended animation for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It would certainly take that long for a potato to mutate and grow to take over portions of Aperture Labs.

battlebrothertherix In reply to KaruilKnight [2012-06-30 11:12:07 +0000 UTC]
We don't actually have an accurate estimate. The speaker is broken when she wakes up, and there is no indication of how long Chell has been under aside from it being 'quite a lot longer' than 'a few months'.
At the end Chell also steps out into a full corn field, so there is probably going to be a combine about to harvest all of it.

Not really. I've played some of HL1. I only know of the combine harvester from a friend.
No, Black Mesa and Aperture were both scientific corporations, and thus have a natural animosity towards each other. Cave is just a very animated person when it comes to expressing displeasure.
