Description
In spacer community parlance, a Jaegar is a small, fast and nimble fighter or attack craft. Here we see a older model FRU-927 Mori Class Jaeger, which at the time of its initial release was a relatively popular single-pilot space and atmospheric capable attack craft. Capable of blistering velocities in total vacuum, the FRU-927 could also accelerate to MACH 7 in most planetary atmospheres with some notable exceptions such as gas giants, and had a varied and deadly loadout. In this case we see the FRU-927 with its default hardware, with the two primary cannons each capable of producing twenty gigawatts potential, and its four secondary cannons, each about twenty gigawatts, with one set producing ionization beams, while the larger of them was capable of highly energized plasma bursts. Secondary weapons modules such as the Hansen Dynamics Torpen IV Torpedo Module could be installed on a secondary rack mounted aft, and in this case permits the fighter to loose off a total of forty-eight torpedoes each carrying a two megatonne fusion warhead.
At the time of its issue, this was quite impressive, and made the craft a space superiority fighter, however, in the intervening sixty-eight years since the time of issue, the FRU-927 has fallen behind tactically more dangerous jaegers with far superior weapons and defensive systems. The FRU-927 carried a defensive shield generator which could protect it for a limited period, so the pilot relied on the craft's speed and maneuverability - which was considerable - for its primary form of defensive action. Typically the craft was issued in a standard white thermopaint scheme as seen in these illustrations, although stealth schemes using much darker paint were not uncommon, especially where visual screening was advantageous to pilots.
The grid-like elements on the wings are the emitter channels and field coils for a stealth field generator, and in combat conditions the FRU-927 was capable of masking its thermal and radioactive emissions, and of blocking or reflecting the sensor frequencies of enemy craft. This technology was eventually banned due to corporate pressure against rogue elements, dissidents and malcontents, so it is highly unusual to see one of these ships with an operating cloaking field in general service, although a small number do still have functioning technology, they tend to be mothballed and in private collections.
The craft was capable of landing and operating from landing bays, groundports and support vessels, and when in landing configuration the lower wings rotated so that they were raised as to permit landing, wherein the landing gear deployed from the underside. Entry and exit to the cockpit was made possible by the whole nose section sliding forward and back again to seal the pilot in. As mentioned earlier, this is a much older example of a jaegar, and examples of this craft an often be found in the employ of private collectors, the lawless, criminals, pirates and occasionally small planetary defense forces who having a limited budget are content to get their hands on just about any craft as long as it does the job.
