Description

This is obviously inspired by last week's "vonderful" Sesame Street episode paying homage to the indefectible Jerry Nelson. In watching the episode’s street story (which was finally filmed in December of 2012), it felt bittersweet to be hearing Jerry and Kevin Clash voicing their characters (through prerecorded tracks); which implies (to me, at least) that there was a lot planned in advance before the show was shot. At any rate, it is amazing knowing that they were both involved with this special episode in some way in spite of recent events.

Nice touch of having the Count's cape reflect what it actually was in the episode

I got here from your post on Muppet Central. Just want to let you know that this is a GREAT fan-art!

this is a wonderful piece.

I use to have "Elmo says boo" on video as a kid and the Count was my favourite sesame street character. It is so tragic that Jerry Nelson passed away. he was a talented Muppeteer.

nice work

Great as always, Jonny. BTW, there's another Sesame T-shirt contest www.toughpigs.com/welovefine-s… & I'm fresh out of ideas. You have any helpful suggestions?

So I've heard. I'm still thinking about what I should do, although if you want to improve on the Fraggle t-shirt design you made, I would say start with a simple idea (e.g. Cookie eating cookies). Just my two cents. There's a lot of leeway to think of one and submit it before the deadline, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Well, one idea I just thought of would maybe be a selection of a bunch of SS's musician characters scrambled about. There'd also be a caption that says "The word on the street is... Symphony"

There'd be the Honkers, a Dinger, Don Music, Hoots, Prairie, Rosita, Polly Darton, Little Jerry & the Monotones, Little Chrissy & the Alphabeats, the Oinker Sisters, Placido Flamingo, Count, Ernie, Telly & many other characters that can play instruments.

That sound good?

Yeah, that would be a neat design. I think if the idea speaks to you, then go for it.

Actually, coming up with these design ideas has been a lot easier than I thought.

Only problem is that my dad & siblings have been telling me to dum in down to just the major well-known characters (Big Bird, Cookie, Ernie & Bert, Elmo, Oscar, Grover, Count, etc.), but there's MILLIONS of shirts like that! I have ideas that involve the OTHER great characters!

They've also told me to do drawings specifically centered around Carol & David's characters, since they're 2 of the judges. That seems kinda like cheating or bribing them in a horrible way.

2 designs that Dad's REALLY been bugging me to do involve Carol (which I don't know if the Muppeteers is allowed)

1 is like the evolution of man, but with Carol turning into Big Bird. That kinda progression thing's been done before in the first contest: www.toughpigs.com/wp-content/u…

The second is Big Bird in a zen pose with Jim in one hand & Carol in the other with a caption saying "You are the voice inside my wings"

I've been telling them those concepts have been done & it's MY choice, but they're still telling me no!

Well, like I said, a simple concept based around (a) singular character(s) probably would be a definitive t-shirt design. Whether you focus on Cookie Monster or Forgetful Jones, I would say find a special connection you have with a character and embrace that in your design.  I do think you should take your family's advice into consideration, but don't feel forced to do something you don't want to do. If you sketch out multiple design ideas, it might be easier to pick and choose the one you want to finalize and submit. Hope that helps.

I'm not shunning out their ideas; they're clever ones, but like I said in the last comment, I just think it seems like unfair bribing. I think it seems unfair to do a design that has Caroll in it since he's one of the judges. I'll at least draw the Caroll evolution one to see how it turns out. I don't know if I'll submit it...

What I have submitted so far in the Ernie & Bert Abbott & Costello drawing I uploaded here averagejoeartwork.deviantart.c… , one feat. Mumford & Abby (ala Bullwinkle www.youtube.com/results?search… & one being a tribute to Bud Luckey (with characters from his animated segments)

One I have drawn (but not colored) is Don Music playing a piano with Prairie Dawn leaning on Don's piano, like Schroeder and Lucy from Peanuts, same style & everything. 4.bp.blogspot.com/-omQJknLJvw0… Not trying to make shipment of the 2, just thought it fit since Don & Schroeder both are obsessed with famous writers (Beethoven & Shakespeare) & they're both pianists (G'night, everybody!)

That leaves ONE PIC LEFT. What I'd like to do is one featuring one of (or a majority of) the human characters.

Probably one of your best Muppet fan arts yet.

I really liked that episode, it showed that in a way we all have a little of the Count (Jerry Nelson) in all of us.

That's very good, Jonny.  Like I mentioned before Jerry must have known his time was coming in order to plan this episode in advance.  Overall, I'd say this was very well done, both the episode and your artwork.

I loved that episode, especially Cookie Monster's Homer Simpson behavior in Les Mousserables.

Plus, did you see Snuffleupagus as the statue?

My cable provider has this description for Sesame Street: "A landmark series set in an ethnically diverse urban neighborhood where every day is a sunny one." But it's NOT sunny when The Count is around, because then he makes it stormy!
Nice artwork, too!
