This is great and so different from what I've seen of your style. You're all over the place w/ skill.

Thanks! This is a pretty old one haha, back from my painterly street art influenced days.

Everyone goes through that phase; although it hasn't ended for me yet. Great work nonetheless.

Okay.. first of all, I LOVE elephants. Moreover, I really go for the "not ordinary", so this one scores twice.

Nice piece of work.

One of the best short stories I've ever read.. you've made an excellent illustration. I really like what you did with the masking tape.

Some pointless trivia:

My dad's godfather worked with Orwell during the '40s when he was creating radio shows for BBC India.

Orwell wrote that nothing was done because the elephant was owned by a poor Indian, but in reality it was actually owned by a British-owned steel company, and because of that his job was downgraded and he was exiled to some remote area of the subcontinent. Since the story is essentially an anti-imperialist polemic, he switched the facts around.

This makes me want to buy one. He could be friends with my camel.

I love it. Truly.

(I also happen to seriously dig Orwell as well as elephants. Elephants don't leave their injured, bury their dead, and many of them paint. It's all about the elephants, man. )

like i said this IS a cool illustration but another cool idea (just a suggestion) would be to give the elephant characteristics of a goat. since he's a scapegoat. corny, but the irony of it...

jonesray In reply to ni9elives [2004-02-09 07:48:48 +0000 UTC]

LOL, I thought about that. The goatness probably would've thrown people off.. some sort of demony-ele-goat-creature..thing.

i loved that short story by george orwell. it really made me think. this is an awesome illustration to go along with it... it kind of reminds me of an old traditional animation that played on nickelodeon probably a decade ago.

You're ALIVE! ::cheer!::

I especially like the simple colors, and what you used as a canvas for it (what IS it, anyway? I like the color..). I enjoy the style of the horns and the eyes... nice job!
