Description Some quick posters I inked to keep myself warmed up for the bigger projects. The one on the left is a poster for my band or at least some EP art whenever we finish recording. The one on the right is work in progress-- but it could go in a few directions now content-wise, so I left it alone.

What do you ink with?

I use Kolinsky Sable #0-6, though I'll usually ink an entire illustration with a single 2 or 4 brush. I also use Yasutomo brand Sumi Ink, it has the richest black in my opinion. Hope that helps!

they look both great, but in combination I like them even more maybe it's a coincidence, but in my opinion they create an interesting atmosphere together.

really really busy. i finished my credentialing progam and finished my first full year of teaching high school art. in between that, i'm remodeling my house. so really the only things i've been able to post have been those w.i.p. paintings and a couple of small things. hopefully this summer will give me a bit more time to do art!!

This is absolutely gorgeous! O_O How long have you been working with ink?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jonesray In reply to hermithole [2009-06-03 19:58:35 +0000 UTC]

I've been working with ink for about 5-6 years now. It was mostly brushpen at first but I've spent the last 3 years using sumi brushes and japanese inks.

Oh that's a long time to be working with ink! I notice that you have this really fine lines on your artworks... do you have any tips for such precise control?

Thank you so much for replying!

jonesray In reply to hermithole [2009-06-10 05:35:55 +0000 UTC]

I had to think about this for a bit... I suppose, learn to draw with your whole arm rather then just your wrist, draw from life as often as possible-- using only pen or things you can't erase. That taught me to take risks and be more observant. Also, start using brush and ink as soon as possible, experimenting with different types of paper and inks until you find a combo that feels right. A big part of creating work with fine lines is being comfortable with the materials and drawing with confidence. Hope that helps a bit!

Thank you so much for taking your time to type this. I will be trying out these few tips, and hopefully, be one day as good as a medium as you are. ^^

"Pift that is lame there is so much hair you can hardly make out a fact ..."

Nah I kid. [laughs, the joke being that he posted a photo recently with the same hair to face ratio] The one of the left is a little rough for me, but the one on the right is more interesting and coming along nicely so far.

Congrats on the DD btw, well earned.
