A couple of characters I painted for the 4e Eberron Campaign Guide, which was recently released.

The heraldic crests were supplied by the client for incorporation, and I do believe were the work of my friend the mighty Ironshod.

Painter, Artrage, Photoshop.

Eberron is entirely made of awesome if you ask me. Nice work. Would that be House Tharashk and House Kundarak?

Ooo you're testing my memory now. But I think you're right!

I love how the armor designs are leafy and stony, respectively. Do you find it difficult to work on a white background?

Thanks!
Yup I do! I usually lay a midtone all over the place, and then trim out the figures once I get my tones mostly established. That does come with pitfalls, since suddenly you've gone from a mid range context to a stark white, which can make everything look much darker than you intended. But with a bit of juggling it seems to come out ok for the most part.

I'll keep that tip in mind.

Excellent work. Although I think gargoyle is an unusual choice for a dwarf's heraldic symbol...but still neat.

Such wonderful concept!
I love the female dwarf, this is the first time I see one without a beard

Beautiful! Is that a female dwarf? If so, yay!

It is indeed a female dwarf! Wotc are very good with respect to the diversity of characters they show in their books.

It may be LotR blurring my mind but I didn't think you could get female dwarves. Fantastic piece again Jon!

Thanks!

This is for D&D, so their rules apply. Though there are indeed female dwarves in Tolkein.

Tolkien's female dwarves have beards. That's why people are unaware of their existence. they look just like the dudes.

Ah I was merely going by the films, shamefully I haven't read the books! Wasn't trying to insinuate you were wrong, your knowledge of the mythical is vast!

They made films of Lord of the Rings?????

Sorry for giving the impression - no offense taken or any such nonsense. I will confess to being in "DA mode" though, in preparation for the stream of emails telling me what I did wrong. Usually on matters completely out of my hands given the commission status of pretty much all my work.

I've only had one coffee when i'd wrote that

Constructive crits I understand but when people start being difficult about how X 'should' look when your doing what your being paid for, that really bothers me. It's different if you, for example, said 'do you this magic staff mentioned in book A looks how you imagined it, or meets description in book B?'

Yup. I mean it doesn't keep me awake at night, but there can be tiny injustices in comments which aren't really practical to address in DA comment form. It is sometimes irksome when people mistake their opinion for fact. Especially if their opinion is about your intentions. Other times people aren't aware that an image can have boundaries put on it for commercial reasons and assume everything you do is your own idea.

But hey ho. This is all small potatoes, eh? Generally I have a very pleasant time on DA.
