I seriously doubt that the picts would have used crossbows.

What painter medium do you prefer to use? I like digi water colour for base colour and artists oils on top.

Yeah that comes fairly close to what I do.
I always have some mid-tone texture laid in there on top of a sketch (which could be scanned pencil or just made in Painter or increasingly PS) I'll put in my darks with a digi water colour, then usually lay in some slabs of paint with Artist Oils. Then back to the digi water colour. I have a couple of custom detail oil brushes. ( Heck all my brushes are custom in one way or another, I can't stop messing with them!)
Sometimes I use Artists Oils (or just Oils) on a gel layer instead of the water colour. Or the water colour on a gel layer and confuse the heck out of myself!

Thanks for the tips. I am always interrested in hearing how the proffessionals use packages. I found that when I use watercolour on a gel layer you get a white halo type edge to the paint. Do you have this problem and if so how do you correct it.

That halo isn't something I've noticed. Gel layers can be a bit weird with some brushes though - particularly airbrush types I find. Switching to multiply sometimes solves it. Give it a try and let me know?

Sorry it's taken ages to reply. I've been having problems with painterX at the moment. I seem to have found a way of getting round the halo effect. But I realised that my problem with gel layers was that you can only darken whats underneath. Sorry if it doesn't make sense - I am still quite new to painter , being a mostly pjotoshop artist these days- the two pakages are wildly different.
