Interesting colors, love the textures. Are photos like this taken at a whim (like you saw the kid running and just snapped a shot) or was it intentional (you asked a kid to do it for you)? I assume it's the former, but, you never know...
Do you have any recommendations for books/sites/tutorials on textures?

I just saw the kid running across the street and decided to pull out my phone. It was a random shot, but turned out great.
For textures I usually use my own, but sometimes google for ones if I am desperate. But, I make sure that permission is granted to use freely and commercially.

What kind of materials do you use to create textures, if you don't mind me asking?

I use a camera and sometimes photoshop brushes. But I take a lot of grunge photos or materials such as rusted walls, cracked pavement, etc. Mostly weathered materials.
