Description
This idea started with the factory red Scion xD. As the sporty stock shell/skin comes off and rises away from the car, it reveals a black xD with a snake skin paint job on a body kit inspired by the Desert Horned Viper Snakes with its distinctive horn behind its eyes.I also integrated some carbon fiber parts with the snake skin paint job to create different textures but at the same time, still complimenting each other.
The body kit is my own design and 100% air brushed. This whole piece was done solely with Photoshop CS.
Here is the base car I used. [link]

Congradulations. You made a really cool piece. However you say that the red is flying up into the air? I thought the red sheats were assembling themselves onto the car. I think the main thing that got me to think this was the vertical motion blur at the upper right cornder.
Maybe you need some motion blurs on the red sheets to indicate what direction they're flying.

well if you think about it, everything starts from the front to the back right? in that case it definitely is peeling off
XD

But if you think about it, if the car is moving then the red sheets should be flying to the right, not to the left.
Either way you look at it, there's problems. It wouldn't be hard to fix this.

the car itself is already on the right side, so flying off to the left is to balance out the image
well either way, they won the competition =O
changing it wont make any difference hah

Well, if we're not talking about a simple edit with motion blur, my advice is to change the composition. So to have the sheets flying off to the left rather than the right means: change the composition.
This inclused moving the car itself to the left to allow the sheets to fly to the right.
It may have won a competition, as it should have, but it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't look like the red sheets are flying off of it. It can be precieved either way.

well, i suppose. but obviously the artist themself didn't think that was a problem
guess they were satisfied with the finished product ne?

Don't get me wrong, the picture looks good, but usually what the artist thinks of his own work really doesn't mean a thing. It's what others think of it. Of course the artist is going to like it, the artist made it. That's a biased opinion.

I think its a bit harsh to say "what the artist thinks of his own work really doesn't mean a thing as it is biased". In my personal opinion, there is a definite value of what the artist's perspective is in regards to their artwork. I use it to gain understanding on things that doesn't makes sense to me and use it as an opportunity to learn.
And let me explain and clarify why I have the pieces flying off to the left instead of to the right. Since the car is static, the pieces can technically be flying off at any direction and it won't be wrong. But in this situation, it made a lot of sense to have it flying to left for composition's sake. I didn't feel that it needed any motion blur to indicate the direction of it as I thought it was clear what was happening from what the whole premise of the contest.
If had the car positioned to the left (static or in motion), then it would make sense for the pieces to fly off to the right as you have suggested.
I do appreciate your post and your critique.

Don't get me wrong. The whole reason why an artist works on their work is because they're trying to convey a message or because THEY like it. But ultimately, they hope other's appreciate it. I used to tell critics to go fuck themselves because I liked my work. But then, one day, someone bitchslapped me and said that they are the audience. They're the whole reason I do what I do. I should never take my opinion, as the artist, to be more valid than those that see your work. And I hold that to be very true today.
There are times when I say I hate a picture that I composed and many people call it "their favorite". My opinion really doesn't matter to them.
I would like to state that regardless of my thoughts on the piece, it turned out looking great. And you won an award and that's an extra bonus.
Thanks
