So I have spent the last two day, for about 12 or so hours, working on this painting. It's a fun tribute to Frank Frazetta and Robert E. Howard (My favorite artist and one of my favorite writers). Red Nails is the name of a Conan the Barbarian story in which Conan faces off against an ape man in a red cape (no spoilers there, the story has been around since the 1930s). You may have remembered that that single moment from the story "Red Nails" was poorly adapted in that one scene of Conan the Destroyer.EDIT:
This is actually from the story "Rogues in the House" not "Red Nails". Both stories have an ape man in them so I got them confused. My bad.

Eh, Red Nails didn't feature any apemen either if I recall correctly.
It did feature a dragon/dino and an unnameble, ''slithering''-in-the-dark thing but no monkey business.
(Plus some softcore, very subtile lesbian undertones.)
A LOT of R.E.Howard's stories on Conan had apemen/pseudo-gorillas one way or another so confusion is only understandable.

Perhaps I'm thinking of black colossus? Is that the one when they are on an island with pirates and Conan and the girl run into an apeman?

Nah, Black Colossus is about a resurrected necromancer who gathers up an army but Conan's mercenary band wreck him in the desert.
What you're describing sounds like ''Shadows in the Moonlight'', which had pirates and magicked iron statues and a single apeman in an island in the Vilayet Sea.
