Alright here's my take on Mario for my Mario Movie inspired AU "Super Mario Bros The Lost World". To learn more about it look here: www.deviantart.com/jordango/ar…

For this AU I wanted to switch Mario and Luigi's roles to be closer to their game counterparts, with Mario as the brave and adventurous one and Luigi as the scared and reluctant one. Ultimately this design isn't all that different from the one I made in this post (www.deviantart.com/jordango/ar… ), only I wanted to make him appear more cheerful and friendly. As much as I enjoyed Bob Hoskins in the role of Mario in the live action movie, I personally feel he's a bit grouchy for a character like Mario who's traditionally a very upbeat character. Which is perfectly fine as the movie's version of the character and it's impressive that Hoskins was able to give such good performance considering how much he hated the experience to the point of doing most of it while drunk. But for my take on the character I wanted to steer closer to his traditional portrayal, granted with more depth and some elements of the Hoskins version. He's also younger to be more in line with his game counterparts (who's in his 20s in the games). Basically for my take on the character I want to pull elements from the movie, games, cartoons and comics' take on the character along with bits and pieces of the previous drafts of the movie's script.

*Also note that I didn't draw him with the wrench and Fire Brand Glove because I want to do a series of drawings showcasing the different gadgets used by the Mario Bros in this AU, each one based on various power ups from the games and various plumbing tools. Which would include the Wrench and Fire Brand Glove.

Name: Mario Jumpman Mario Jr...

Mario is a friendly good hearted guy with an overabundance of passion and eagarneness. He's a very caring individual even if he can be a big slob at times with a tendency to mess up a lot but still manages to come through in the end. He has a very upbeat friendly attitude and very outgoing, though he can also have a bit of a temper particularly whenever he's dealing with scumbags like Bowser or Scapelli, being very aggressive with those sorts. He's adventurous, headstrong and more than willing to enter dangerous situations to the point of being impulsive and quick to get into a fight (to the point that sometimes someone like Luigi or Peach has to hold him back). He has a strong moral code and will always stand up for the right thing, willing to fight whatever injustice he encounters. He has a stong work ethic, being a master plumber he takes his job very seriously, when he does a job he has to do it right, often refuses to accept any payments for his work until it's done perfectly. His soft heart has also led to him doing jobs for free, or at least for a simple well cooked meal, he's always willing to help those in need. He's very prideful to the point of being a bit of blowhard who thinks he knows everything about everything and how the world works, being somewhat blind to his own buffoonish traits. Not to mention is cocky and overconfident in general. He's also skeptical being unable to believe in stuff like the super natural, ghosts, aliens, alternate dimensions, and so on, at least until he came to the Mushroom Kingdom (though it took him a while to completely come to terms with learning that half the stuff in that world was real).

Has a can fix everything himself attitude even if he gets gets driven to frustration to the point of trying to fix things by yelling and hitting at it, often too proud to accept help from others feeling like he can do everything himself. He's a master plumber, having been trained in the craft since he was really young by his father even inheriting his plumbing business. But at the same time he's rather insecure about his occupation as a plumber preferring to be referred to as "a contractor, specializing in waste management and water supply systems" (But he eventually gets over this during his adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom), he's also insecure about his poor status often wishing he was more successful but refuses to compromise his morals to do so and has a strong hatred for anyone who does a lot of underhanded stuff and enjoy more success than he does (like for example Bowser or Scapelli). He also likes to eat a lot specifically he loves to eat itallian dishes like Spaghetti, Lasagna, Ravioli, Pizza and so on. He's a fun and friendly guy to hang with but can be a no nonsense leader when he needs to be.

He loves his brother Luigi, but is too proud to really take him seriously or see him as an equal. He thinks he knows how the world works and tries to pass that knowlege onto Luigi whether he wants his advice or not (the quality of the advice tends to vary). They can butt heads with each other like most siblings do, Mario can get annoyed with Luigi's belief in the paranormal, scaredy cat tendencies, and occassional push overness (tries to help him be more assertive). Luigi likewise can be just as annoyed by Mario's own over confidence, slobbiness, and impulsive and confrontational attitude (he usually has to keep his brother out of trouble). They're also prone to bits of sibling rivalry with a few fights here and competitiveness. But at the end of the day they have a great brotherly love for each other and will always be ther for each other no matter what and help each other at the drop of a hat. They work very well together, whenever one either of them needs a partner in anything they do they're eachother's first choice.

Mario's also a bit of a romantic, with a great love for Princess Peach, having had a crush on her since they met as as kids. He's always wanting to impress her and make her happy, and will fight through anything that might threaten her. When she's kidnapped there isn't anything that'll stop him from rescuing her. Though he does become a bit insecure in his relationship with her once it's revealed that she's a princess, I mean why would a princess ever want to be with a schlubby little plumber like him? Not gonna lie haven't thought that much about their relationship due to being more focused on trying to flesh out their individual characters and their dynamics with other characters.

Bowser is pretty much Mario's arch nemesis, in Mario's eyes Bowser is a manifestation of everything Mario hates in a person: cruel, greedy, oppressive, selfish, underhanded, forceful, manipulative, dishonest and uses his power to only hurt others, just an all around bully which Mario does not tolerate at all. Bowser is essential Mario's polar opposite, and Mario's disdain for him is more than mutual, whenever they meet they end up trading insults as they do battle. All in all Mario will stop at nothing to foil whatever scheme Bowser has cooking and to free the Mushroom Kingdom from the wrath of this cruel cold blooded tyrant.

Mario was named after his father Mario Jumpman Mario Sr, an italian immigrant who accidently messed up on the paper work for his American Citizenship by putting Mario as both his first and last name for his new American name. Mario Sr would have worked many different jobs including as a carpenter, he'd often tell Mario and Luigi the story of how he met their mother by rescuing her from a rampaging gorilla (Yes in this universe the Mario from the Arcade Donkey Kong is the father of the modern day Mario and Luigi), until one day he finally settled on a plumbing business, back then called "Mario's Plumbing". Mario and Luigi would often get into trouble as kids always looking for adventure and getting into fights (usually from Mario protecting Luigi from bullies), Mario sort of became a regular at the Principle's Office with a reserved seat in the Detention Room. He grew up in a bad neighborhood so has gotten into a lot of street fights as a kid. His father was a sort of pillar of the community being one of the most reliable and honest plumbers in the area, as soon as Mario and Luigi were old enough to handle tools their father made them is apprentices/assistants and the plumbing company was renamed "Mario & Sons' Plumbing". Though Mario had bigger dreams than being a plumber for the rest of his life, he wanted to be big and travel the world, he wanted to become a doctor, an athlete, an astronaut, or even a painter and go to big parties and all that. But unfortunately he had to put all those dreams on hold when one day his father died of a heartattack leaving Mario to have to carry on the family business with Luigi, renaming it "Mario Bros. Plumbing".

Despite everything Mario manages to make the best of his plumbing business, sharing a similar reputation as his father, but can't shake his desire for more out of life and own insecurities about his occupation. Though he's always struggled with money especially nowadays due always loosing business to the ever crooked Scapelli Construction Company. Then came the fateful day he along with Luigi went to visit his girlfriend Peach at her digsite and watched her get kidnapped, and soon finding himself in the twisted city of Neo Koopa City (that was once the Mushroom Kingdom). He and Luigi go on an adventure to try and rescue Peach, which leads to his first confrontation with Bowser who defeats Mario and Luigi in a curbstomp battle before proceeding to drop them from off of his Tower (the tallest skyscraper in the city). Mario and Luigi would have died had they not have been saved by the Fungus that covers the city and were fed Super Mushrooms that grant them super human abilities. Eventually the duo joined up with the local resistance group called the Mushroom Retainers to go rescue Princess Peach, where Mario finally has a rematch with Bowser this time defeating the tyrant by outsmarting him and utilizing his plumbing skills. Afterwards Mario and Luigi decide to stay and help free this world from Bowser's rule alongside the Mushroom Retainers. (more details on these events are in the first link at the top)

Mario would soon come be be very famous in this world, being seen as the symbol of hope to the people of this world thanks to his battles with Bowser. He and Luigi go on many adventures thwarting Bowser's schemes, going on missions for the Mushroom Retainers, or just out exploring this world in general.

Since eating the Super Mushrooms, Mario and Luigi have been granted super human abilities including: Super Human Strength (with the strength to break bricks via punch and to lift even the likes of Bowser), Super Human Agility (making him able to pull off the levels of acrobatics he does in the games), enhanced senses, and enhanced speed (note while he's fast he's nowhere near the levels of Flash or Sonic he can just move real quick). He's also incredibly resourceful and a quick thinker, able to outsmart his foes. He and Luigi also utilize a large assortment of gadgets (all based on different power ups from the games and various plumber tools). One notable gadget they utilize and always wear are the Thwomp Stompers, special boots that enhance their jumping ability.
