Remake of this: I did remade this because it's my most popular deviation, and I know I can do a lot better now. ^^ 8,000+ views, almost 800 favorites, and 170+ comments. (At this time.) I wonder if I can beat it? Anyways, this was from November 6, 2011, so it's been a good almost two years of improvement. !!SPOILER ALERT!! This picture depicts Leafpool's 'Quest' with her three forbidden kits, after she gave birth and is about to give them to Squirrelflight. In case you don't know, the kits are Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze.

I drew this before the actual scene was released in Leafpool's Wish. This was just my interpretation of it.

I love how you made the kits actually look like kittens rather than small cats like most artist do.How do you make it so realistic?

Well, one of my best tips for learning how to draw realistically is too always practice from references. Real life reffs, or photographs. When I first started out, I reffed a lot of my drawings on other people's drawings. Which is fine for a while, but if you really want to master it, you have to start trying to imitate the real thing.

is it just me...or does anyone else see the similarities Β between leafpool and Spottedleaf. In my opinion, Leafpool looks so much like Spottedleaf, that they are more related to each other more than Leafpool and Sandstorm, which means that Spottedleaf should be leafpool's real mother, not Sandstorm.Β

Well, it is true that it's not genetically possible for Firestar and Sandstorm to have a brown tabby as their offspring, since Sandstorm is ginger, and ginger female cats can only have ginger offspring, or something like that... I don't fully understand the genetics myself XD. But in my opinion, Spottedleaf couldn't be Leafpool's real mother. It's true that their personalities are kinda similar, but personalities aren't inherited traits. :3

but spottedleaf could pass on the brown to the offspring, since she is calico or a tortoiseshell coloring, whereas you stated before Sandstorm is a ginger, and only female ginger cats can pass on ginger to the offspring. Some torties can mask the dominate O gene for orange and can be masked with Brown, black or chocolate. And can carry the gene for white. Which is why Spottedleaf makes more sense to be Leafpool's mother and Squirrelflight's mother, so she can have the ability to carry on those traits to her offspring.Β

You're right, Spottedleaf would genetically make more sense than Sandstorm as Leafpool's mother. However, socially, that probably wouldn't happen. Spottedleaf died when Firestar was still an apprentice, and she was the medicine cat. I can't imagine goody-goody Firestar having kits with her XD

Again, i love forbidden romances. For some reason it draws to me. And I think Firestar would actually go for it, because he felt something with her all throughout his apprenticeship when he was there. Then all throughout after when she died, when he was a warrior, she has been his guide, and he grew to love her even more. Love has no age, and in the feline world they can mingle in with older cats than them, and mate.
To me personally, i think Firestar and Spottedleaf is a much better fit, and how the author portrayed his offspring it will be better fitting for Spottedleaf, genetically Β speaking, to be the mother to Leafpool and Squirrelflight. I say that because genetically Sandstorm can only pass on the ginger traits to her offspring if she mates with another ginger. And Torties or Calico cats are known to have different color combinations of cats within the litter. So that is why i am making the case that genetically it makes sense for Spottedleaf to be the mother to Firestar's kits. But hey, everyone's to their opinion.Β

I love both the remake and the older version. This one looks so realistic. The sizes from cat to kits look about right, and the shading is amazing. The kits also look like they are still wet, which would be appropriate for the scene
With your older version, I just loved your linework. xD

I actually feel sorry for leafpool and squirrelflight and hollyleaf. squirrelflight is loyal to her sister and had to keep her secret, i understand that. What i don't understand is why squirrelflight wouldn't tell brambleclaw. Her /mate./ Hollyleaf just.... went insane. I can't believe she was willing to feed her own mother deathberries. I mean be mad at her but.. wtf
