It may well be where Yakko and Bugs got injured in a car crash(Yakko had yet to start driving lessons, Bugs was driving, but was far from the world's safest driver. He may have been distracted momentarily at a crucial moment and ...).Both were seriously injured. I guess franking (shape-change to avert injury) only works if you have the time and awareness to consciously WILL the change.
