You should have done it where he was down to his underwear and his left shoe.
(IE he went through every other peace of clothing, and still didn't realize it was the left shoe. Plus he always ends up losing his pants, either acid, something ripping them off, skydiving, forgetting to put them on, etc.) One thing Ron can do is be comical relief.
