Well, the idea came from CBUB, the site of the Comic Book Universe Battles; sometimes, when making the set-up of the fights and looking for a reason for the battle, you get funny pairing like this one; there was a Sonic vs Animaniacs fight, and the reason the Warners had to fight Sonic was this, that Amy was now dating Wakko and the hedgehog became jealous.

Amy Rose acquired hammerspace when she wished to be older as she held a magic wishing ring. the Prince was very upset with her selfish wish as HE was rushing to use it to cure Queen Alicia of her mortal illness (never identified). She got there first.
Amy Rose, despite her new abilities, was criticized as aging does not bring maturity or experience. One can only acquire that themselves by the old way.
