It's not that the mash-ups are supposed to be good (in whichever way you choose to define "good"), it's that the mash-ups are designed to test our creativity; we are the ones responsible for making the mash-ups "good," not the mash-up generator. It's like one of those scenarios where someone empties a box full of random junk on the table in front of you and challenges you to make something out of it. "Okay, my box has an electric box fan, twenty yards of black yarn, a car battery, a dozen license plates, six tubes of Crazy Glue and a pair of needlenose pliers. What can I make from all this junk?"
I just rolled up "An alien in an M. C. Escher painting about to make a terrible mistake," and I'm seriously considering about five or six ways to turn that crude guideline into an amusing sketch. You should set your misgivings aside and give this challenge a whirl; you might just enjoy the challenge and what you make of it.
