Hi there! Finally, I'm done with this pic. Since is the final version I'll put in some already known info from previous WIPs. Be careful with the spoilers!

Witchblade is one of my two favorite western comic series (the other being Spawn) basically because they both kinda go a bit out of the norm in american comics (not really too fan of superhero-in-cape-and-underpants comics). But this time, the source of this piece of art is the anime adaptation. This series is really good, with a very interesting plot, but sadly for people who likes the comic series, it doesn't fill in too much details about it, leaving the origins of the witchblade itself as a mystery and not telling much of its previous wielders...

In the anime, however, there was a concept that I liked, and that was the fact that the present user of the witchblade, Masane, isn't the "legitimate" user of the weapon, and uses it instead of her adoptive daughter Rihoko, which is a "neogene", a human created by bioengineering to be the peak of human development, but still too young to be of any use for the Witchblade. In the anime we see how Masane's health keeps worsening because of the Witchblade... But this is a trait not shared by the original comic series, so I like to think it's a side-effect of her non-legitimate user condition instead, to keep it more or less canon. While at the end of the anime Masane sacrifices herself supposedly to destroy the Witchblade along with the threats that were about to destroy the city where her daughter and her lived, the idea of Rihoko being a future wielder of the witchblade was a very cool concept to think about, so this idea was born.

For this picture I tried to keep a bit of both worlds, to merge the aesthetics of both series and apperances of the Witchblade to reference both series. Rihoko's Witchblade armor recovers the metallic-organic look in the comic series, but keeps some traits of Masane's armor, like the overall body coverage and shape (breast plates, the blade in front of her right shoulder and the one on her stomach, the little blade on her crotch, and the ones on her legs, as well as the shape of the "boots"). Also she takes on some fascial features of her mom, like the maddened black eyes and the hair fusing into a pair of blades.

For the theme of the "weapons", I wanted to give it a bit of a classical look, since in the Witchblade you don't really see much of a "blade", most of the time Sarah fights in a more chaotic manner and using more undefined edges and tentacles. This time I wanted to give Rihoko weapons that resempled a sword and a shield, that made her look powerful like some sort of european knight (this kinda messes the balance of the picture a bit, took some tries to make the lower part heavy-looking enough to match all that visual weight on the top).

I was also planning about drawing a more complex background, bt the picture was so detailed that I didn't want to add too much more to it or I wouldn't finish it ever. x_x

So, I hope you like this pic. Criticism is encouraged! It's my first time trying some complex metallic shadows and armor so don't take it too rought. <_<
