Day 10 of Sanctuary January
There are four extant species of tapir : Brazilian tapir, Malayan tapir, Baird's tapir and mountain tapir. Based on the species, they inhabit jungle and forest of South America, Central America and Southeast Asia.
Brazilian tapir is classified as vulnerable, while the other three species are endangered. They are hunted for their meat and hides, and habitat loss has become their main threats.
