Beautiful. Its great to see someone actually do this instead of those stupid and unoriginal "tyrant trollestia sends everything to the moon" jokes that have been done a hundred times over.

How is it her fault? Celestia was out of options. Mass extinction was coming, and the only solution was to take the source of the problem out of the equation. The source was Luna, or more specifically, her Nightmare Moon psycho-self.

why would Celesita use the elements to only banish her when Twilight used it to save Luna?

I'm pretty sure Lauren Faust stated somewhere on her DA account that since Princess Celestia was the only one wielding the Elements against Nightmare Moon, she was unable to tap into their full power and purify Luna (as opposed to six ponies wielding it a millenium later, allowing much more of the Element's power to be drawn upon).

Maybe it just took a thousand years for a pony to be born who could use it to cure Luna (Twilight).

Lol, if you watched the first episode, you'd understand this picture. I'm not even kidding. That's Celestia after having to banish her sister Luna to the moon. Who basically threatened to wipe out all life on earth by not letting the sun rise. Oh, and the plural of pony is ponies.

Basically, this picture shows Princess Celestia sad over the fact that she was forced to send her only sister - Princess Luna, who had been corrupted by evil and had transformed into Nightmare Moon - to the moon in order to prevent a mass extinction of all life in the world, pony and otherwise. This moon-banishment provides the catalyst for the events of the first two episodes of the first season, and thus the reason for Twilight staying in Ponyville after the Summer Sun Celebration.
