Description
STUDIO GHIBLI’S “HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE”FALL COSPLAY PICTURES NOVEMBER 13th, 2010
WHERE: GRAND RAPIDS, OHIO @ PROVIDENCE PARK
CHARACTERS:
Wizard Howl
Sophie Hatter
THANKS TO: Kayla (Sophie) and I (Howl) would like to personally thank our friend Jennifer for offering us a hand in taking these beautiful cosplay pictures and portraits.
GENERAL INFORMATION: This is a cosplay photograph(s) of Wizard Howl Jenkins (dressed up by Josh Stockburger (myself)) and Sophie Hatter (dressed up by Kayla Cereghin). We (Kayla and I) are residents of the American Midwest. Of course...you can't forget about Calcifer, who is also photographed in most (not all) of these cosplay photograph(s).
It took Kayla (Sophie) and I (Howl) over five months to gather the materials needed for these cosplay photograph(s) to be possible. The jewelry pictured in these cosplay photographs of Howl (myself) and Sophie (Kayla) are the actual Studio Ghibli Museum Merchandise jewels that are complimentary to the Studio Ghibli film "Howl's Moving Castle" (2004) by Hayeo Miyazaki and the book written by Diana Wynne Jones (1986).
These complimentary jewels were purchased through Google Checkout by an individual who lives in Japan. She goes by the name Rika Love Ghibli. She was an excellent seller at the time we purchased the jewels from her. You can only get these jewels from the Studio Ghibli Museum in Japan (unless you make them yourselves or purchase a non-official set), so for those of you who can't get to Japan anytime soon, EBay, Amazon and Google Checkout may be your only option, as it was for Kayla (Sophie) and myself (Howl). The price for these jewels weren’t friendly towards our budget, but Kayla (Sophie) and I (Howl) wanted this cosplay project to be as authentic as possible.
All clothing seen in the photograph(s) were primarily store bought or commissioned in the United States, Japan or China. Only exceptions would be Sophie's shawl and hat, which were both personally worked on by us. Hope you like them!!!

"OMG Sophie, look it's a bird....I've never seen one before..."
That's just the first thing that came into my mind while looking at this! XD

He he! There were plenty of ducks and birds at that park for sure. Really? Well hopefully you get to see one at an anime convention near you soon. I've seen a variety of them and most have been fantastic. He he! I feel the same way when I see a Howl or other cosplay I've never seen before. I have yet to see the cursed Howl or a cosplay from the Studio Ghibli film Earthsea.

Really? (lol late reply! )
I have seen tons of dark Howl cosplays here on dA but I have to agree with ya on the Tales From Earthsea. I have not seen one cosplay for it. *sigh* It really is a good movie I don't see why people hate it so much.
Oh, if it's not too much to ask, would you please view a drawing of mine for Howl's Moving Castle? It's called Calcifer's Light

Yep Yep! It is ok...we all do the late replay thing. I know. It is such a shame. I would love to cosplay as Lord Cob. I have the body for his characther. I would have to get a long black wig. I have long brown hair naturally but it is not dark enough for him. LOL! I know...what is to hate about it. So what...it isn't completely like the books...but neither was Howl's Moving Castle and it was good too! Yeah...I can look at it for ya!

Again, lovely. Poor Kayla just doesn't look like she cares anymore. What would be really great is if you could find a meadow with lots of flowers!

Yeah...corn and soybean fields dominate in my area. Forest and wooded areas dot in-between. We have some swamp to the North. That is about it. Ugh!

Sounds a lot like Northern Iowa. XD

LOL! Yeah...however in this case I'm referring to Northwest Ohio. An area that use to be one of the largest temperate swamps in the Midwest.
It was called The Great Black Swamp and was the size of the state Connecticut when the European settlers arrived. It stretched from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Sandusky, Ohio from West to East and from Toledo, Ohio in the North to Lima, Ohio in the South. Ugh...that is a lot of Swamp!!!
Only around 4% is left...and most of that is along the coast of Lake Erie or along riverbeds. Indigenous Americans didn't care for it and neither did the Europeans. It was one of the last major areas East of the Mississippi River to be settled.
It is so flat and boring. LOL! I love the landscape of Ingary in Howl's Moving Castle much better. He he!!!
Happy Thanksgiving! Toodles!

Yes, Ingary sounds (and looks) like a place I would want to live. Have you read the novel?

Yes I have. I read it this past August. I thought it was really good. It is certainly much different than the film.

Castle in the Air and House of Many Ways are sequels. When I started reading Castle in the Air it was a completely different story. It's not mainly about Howl and Sophie either. It's really good regardless.

I knew about Castle in the Air. I have never heard of House of Many Ways. I'm sure it is good. Dianne Wynne Jones is a good author. Take care!

Yes, she is. I was disappointed at House of Many Ways at first but she has a way of making the endings spectacular.

That she does. I thought the ending in the book was really interesting for Howl's Moving Castle. The Witch of the Waste Home was really interesting. It was made out of orange pots or something like that. Hayeo certainly changed the story when it pertained to her. I think in the book, she died and that Mrs. Angorian kills her. It was strange how she was the fire demon. LOL!

Yah, the book is very different. I thought it was funny that in one paragraph she is dead.

I know it! There were a lot of things I would have never figured out in the film if I hadn't read the book. I never knew Howl was from the real country of Wales (A member country of the United Kingdom today) and I still like the hair and eye color differentiation from the film in the book. We learn so much more about Sophie's parents. I don't recall any mention of Sophie's mother in the film...so the book helped me with that. We also figure more out about the Witch of the Waste and her conflict with the King in Kingsbury. Dyanne makes Kingsbury sound so much more lavish in the book. Ugh!

So very true. They mention Sophie's mother is the film but barely. Of course they do mention Lettie but not Martha.

I know...there is no mention of Martha at all. Lettie was something else. I don't think she had blonde hair in the book though. It was a dark brown or something like that.

I don't know if they mentioned Lettie's hair color in the book.
