Description
I'm not sure of your religious position, but whatever it is (be it Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Consumerism, self-idolatry-- we're all religious in one way or another), I hope that you can be kind enough to observe this image simply for what it is, and appreciate the irony of the photograph, as we all know the story presented here.Along with a couple friends I found an abandoned house today. We came across this sconce and I thought that the contrast was rather ironic. An aged pencil sketch of Mother Mary holding her baby Yeshua over a pair of Catholic Rosary Beads and the crucifix he will eventually die on. With a wide-angle close-up composition, it seems this scene attempts to say a lot in terms of contrast: Life and Death. Love and Hate. Perfection and Imperfection. Intimacy and Solitude. Darkness and Light. New and Old. Cause and Effect.

This is a close-up with a very wide angle, thus explaining the pronounced depth of the comp. Hand-held with a rather long exposure due to nasty lighting. This was on a porch all laced and overgrown with vines and leaves. I personally like the rawness, though.

I have a soft spot for religious imagery, for the reason that it does carry the weight or weights of so much meaning. Nicely done.
