Description I took more shots today of the deforestation project on our campus. My main focus was to simply practice photojournalistic techniques. Learning to most effectively portray a message in an impactful way. That was the drive behind my compositions, exposure, views, etc. The removal of a sensitive environment on my campus is a small one compared to what goes on in some parts of the world, but you can still get a feel of how much a landscape can change in just a couple of days. From a luch green forest full of life and fresh air, to a motionless dry desert of treaded mud and roots. This small series is just to capture the essence of a situation in the most effective manner, so I hope that it is successful.

In this shot I am focusing on the tattered landscape. It resembles scenes of the shattered streets of Hiroshima or Nagasaki after the A-bombs of WWII. Of course, I understand this is not quite comparable. Again this is simply to connect a situation with the possible emotional concept that some connect with it. This may not have been someones home, but it was some'things', destoryed. I use color in this shot to separate the 'post-deforestation' land in the foreground, from the as of yet untouched forest in the background.

Well done in conveying your message here. It does it, at least for me. The landscape really gets the emotions going, and I really think the port-o-potty finishes they deal, the first the humans are here to stay. Sad.

It does look very rural... lovely colors, though.

Ironically perhaps, this is a strangely beautiful picture. The light is autumnal and the colours of the earth, sky and trees warm. I think this effect - although gorgeous - undercuts the devastation you are trying to suggest. Rather - and I know it's not meant to from your explanation - the pic suggests a "tilling of the soil" pastoral feel. Doh!!
