Description
This is another shot from my time in Malibu, California. Most of my time was spent working with a non-profit camp designed around reaching out to under-privileged children, giving them the opportunity to do things they would most likely never otherwise have the chance to do. The camp is called Learning Through Doing Adventures, and everyday we would take the kids (around 40 of them), to a new place to involve them in new activities, from surfing to mountain biking. This particular day was spent at Carbon Beach, in Malibu. We taught the kids surfing, boogie boarding and fishing, as well as got them involved in some other activities which got them working together. The goal is to give these kids the opportunity to become involved in something...pulling them away from the negative influences of their neighborhoods and eventless summers. In this photograph we have Andrew (on the left), standing next to Jonathan, the president of the camp, both getting back on their feet from a fun ride on one of the big waves that the Pacific West Coast spits out. To me the pride in the face of the kid, standing next to someone taking the time from their own life to make his better, knowing he is a part of something, makes this a priceless image. I hope you will enjoy it as well, and maybe think about what a difference you can make if you will just stop doing for yourself from time to time, and make someone else's day.
