Skylights and Sidewalks Info...Located underneath of downtown Philadelphia
For background on this series revealing the abandoned tunnels under Philadelphia, see the previous submission, The Not So Vacant City
This is one spot where the sunlight breaks through to this forgotten place, providing a brief and unrevealing illumination of the environment. The grates above are positioned along the medium of a busy avenue overhead. They allow spots like this to become easy trash receptacles for pedestrians above, as well as to collect runoff from rains. They also allow the clouds of coal ash that fill these old tunnels to slowly vent. Walking underneath of this section, there's an unavoidable urge to look up. I wonder though how many walking overhead ever think to look down?
Please, full view is best! Thanks. The photo-series will continue.
