Suburb Meets CityNorth Philadelphia, PA. USA

Perhaps not my most artistic piece...I think this shot speaks for itself in quite artistic enough ways.
In an attempt to raise land values and desirability in this ghettoized part of the city, the Philly Housing Authority built several blocks of mock-suburban style housing projects complete with tennis courts, shiny green lawns and mini-vans right in the middle of urban North Philadelphia. These out-of-place streets are surrounded by looming abandoned factories and decrepit apartment complexes on all sides. With a little imagination, one living here could almost make-believe they have escaped the poverty trap. Is this what we want them to think?

Well, maybe if they think that they've escaped they'll begin working to stay out of it. I mean the right mentally goes far and the wrong mentality can often be the biggest stumbling block.

Abandoned factories creep me out so much.. but I've always wanted to explore one. (though not alone, lol.)
I think it's weird that they built those homes so close to the factory. And you're right. The picture does speak for itself. I think it's powerful.
