I usually try to keep fan-art relatively simple and quick. However, this was not one of those times. I ended up going completely overboard in terms of effort spent. (I'm talking weeks)
But I don't care, because in the end, this was SO much fun to draw!

Really Digging the armor here, It looks functional enough in a fantasy setting not many armors are paired with dresses so yeah. But really great piece with the dynamic feel of the movement and the rising emotions expressed by the characters.Β

Yeah, it did take a while to figure out the armor, particularly when trying to keep it functional yet feminine. ....and also, this is the first time I actually tried drawing armor properly.

Nice!Β I don't know why, but I come across this often, pictures of Elsa and Maleficent dukin' it out.Β I guess perhaps it might have to do with the close proximity of when the films were released and the both have great depth to their characters.Β Β Also Maleficent follows a similar formula to Frozen.Β

At the most basic level, I think some people (myself included) just like the idea of Disney characters A) sharing the same universe, and B) kicking some serious ass. Still, given that Elsa and Maleficent both ARE very memorable characters--and given that Maleficent got the live-action movie treatment--I guess it's only natural that they would stay on people's minds for longer.

Well, with Once Upon a Time, Elsa also got the live action treatment as well.Β Β And yes, they are both very memorable.Β I hear you on the kicking ass part.Β Β I have a thing for warrior women to begin with.Β Β When there was that fighting scene in Maleficent and she decked out a soldier in complete body armor and he went flying, I was like, "Ohhhh!".Β Β Β Also during the fighting scene in Elsa's Palace and she got her mean on?Β THAT I liked as well.

As for Maleficent, I have not found a good warrior look for her yet, but I found a rather nice 'hot' version of her.

Interesting how everyone has varying views on the ideal warrior woman aesthetic....although one could argue that Angelina Jolie's final Maleficent form (with the black pant-suit and the wings) is one of the more badass looking renditions.
(That being said, I still submit that the original animated Maleficent remains the truest representation of her evil nature.)
Anyway, Season 4 of Once Upon a Time airs in a few days, so, looking forward to that.
