Description
EDIT: Picture taken with a camera now, as opposed to a damn cellphone. Little better now, hah.An updated photo of my Viking gear. Come a decent ways from the previous photo. The spear tip is now re-ground and deadlier than ever. My drinking horn now has a proper carrying strap, and is engraved with "Suttung Mjodr", the Mead of Poetry.
In the background is my new shield just completed. It's 3/8ths douglas fir plywood, with one layer of canvas on the back, 3 on the front, edged in rawhide. Behind the shield boss I've lined it with sheepskin, and it has a forearm strap for various wielding options. Guige strap to come.
And on the left is my newest toy, the Tinker/Hanwei 9th C. Viking sword. Much pertier than the KC viking on the right, handles better too!
Helmet and mail to come!

thats great man , but you should do some battle , make a shield every week , at least you'll have enough to damage them a bit !
looks like you're just getting started tho , good to have another join the ranks i've been doing these sort of things sice I was 14 I have so much stuff I think when I build a house I'll need to take my viking stuff into account

Haha, I have quite a few discarded shields, which are now relegated to target practice, and cutting practice etc...
I've been sparring and into various historical combat practices for nearly 10 years, from the SCA, to groups of like-minded fellows beating the crap out of each other with wasters and no armour. Mainly nowadays I just practice cutting and form work from the various treatises, like I:33 and the like, as its hard to find people around who want to spar. I've a few people interested in learning though, so we'll see where that goes, but I'm the only one with any equipment.
By the by, this is only my viking-related stuff. I've a pile of arms from ethnographic reproductions of Native American weapon systems (Gotta love Okichitaw) to a few brace of cutlasses (self-styled pyrate, of course)
I've only in the past year made a concentrated effort into building my 10th century kit, and there's much to acquire. Though I find I'm more inspired if I begin with the arms first
But I like to keep well rounded, and am familiar and at least adept with everything from Silver to Talhoffer.

I'll get a better photo up once my camera works. Cell phone cameras suck-ass, and lots of detail is missing.
