Nice work!
Do you use the color picker/eye dropper at all? because im planning on doing some color studies and I'm not sure weather it would restrict me from learning color values properly

No i dont use the colour picker on the original. I judge it by eye. But if I will colour pick from my OWN painting if that makes sense. I woudnt colour pic the ref image or you dont learn

Ah makes sense. I credit you even more for this study then!
I'll try painting from a reference soon I think. I'll fail badly however, but it's all part of practicing.

dont make it a pointless study though . Apply it after. Like in this I was trying to imply detail/focus etc. And getting the texture of the rhino. So then I tried to apply it today with that sketch I did. If you study a lamp and do a painting of an alien... its not much point for example lol.

Thanks for the pointer and good example aha C:
At the moment I'm studying human anatomy, how do you suggest I apply that? Anatomy seems far too broad to apply successfully straight after. Maybe focus on certain sections?

It depends really. If i was doing it (and i will be after uni when work isnt in the way).. I would do my own character from imagination. But then when it comes to doing certain muscles im not confident with... I will whap out Loomis to see how to approach it. Ie....draw... get stuck.. study... carry on. That kind of process

Ah ok. What I'm doing at the moment is just going through Brune Hogarths dynamic anatomy and trying to understand the shapes and forms. Im finding it hard to slam through my head, but I suppose it comes through time.
Perhaps your method of learning it through doing your own drawings makes more sense. :S I'll try it out i think
What program are you studying at Uni btw, since I'm finishing Year 12 this year. Im still deciding on what to get into.

Yeah it does. I found faces REALLY hard to do. But since doing the studies u can see in my gallery I have a much better grasp on the main forms of the face. Not perfect... But I am more confident with them. Its the same with anything. Brad Rigney said hey would practice (study) and then after... try to recreate the same thing without looking back. That way you're forcing yourself to remember. I did digital media in uni. Although if you wanna go pro... You don't need uni. You can learn pretty much the same stuff at home just so long as you're focused. I wish I knew that before. But I didn't know that when I started.

Yeah, I think I'll go bit by bit. Practice one section - apply etc. Rather than practice, practice, practice and then forget what i have learned.
I would love to stay at home and "go pro" and do commissions etc. I'm far from capable of doing that yet though, I need time to get good. :S So I'm kind of lost on this decision. Maybe do casual work whilst practicing. Not quite sure to be honest. Really not.

Fair enough man. If you're stuck for inspiration. Check out Brad Rigneys massive tutorial on 'A Hostile Takeover' or Dave Rapozas concept art thread where you can see 4 years of work/studies. All it takes is dedication . If you want it THAT badly - it will happen.

Yeah I gave it a bit of thought. I might try go for a short course. Perhaps 2 years or something, I'll see what I can find. Even though I'm mainly doing it for time, I could always learn a few things.
Ive been meaning to get around to that mass tutorial, and yes that thread is so inspiring C: Ive been planning to make a sketchbook thread over at Crimson Daggers, I think I should get around to it soon.
Thank you for the words of advice, I really appreciate it
I think I've annoyed you enough though, I'll leave you to it. Thank you
