Description
In autumn last year a friend of mine invited me to visit one of the last Pokemon Circuses in Kanto. Many had been dismantled due to maltreatment of the animals and this was one of the last large big tops still traveling. We arrived and the smell of sawdust and popcorn filled my nose, bringing back long forgotten memories from when I was a child.
There were many wonderful acts; Trapeze artists, Strongmen, Charmeleon doing fire breathing tricks, they even had Pidgeot with streamers doing beautiful aerial displays around the tent!
One of their last acts caught my eye. The ringmaster announced they had a rare a special treat for us, one of their oldest and most powerful acts in the show. A red stand was placed in the middle of the ring, along with a small wooden box. Out from behind a curtain, a Kadabra appeared.
It climbed onto the podium and held up a spoon. The spoon then left its hand and floated in mid-air. The crowd were fixated as the spoon bent and twisted. More spoons appeared from the box and floated above the creatures head, creating a glittering display of twisting and spinning metal. The Kadabra went on to do many more tricks, appearing to balance the spoons tip to end in a large tower balancing on its nose and another where it fired them at a young lady against a large board, just missing her.
The crowd cheered and the Kadabra was guided off stage and the circus ended with a big Pokemon parade. We left and walked back to my friend's house. My friend asked why I was so quiet on the walk back and I explained I felt sorry for the Kadabra.
You see, Abra and Kadabra are not naturally from Kanto. They were captured in another unknown region when explorers were mapping the world and brought over to Kanto to be displayed in shows like the one we had just seen. Psychic Pokemon were rare in Kanto and they were a big crowd puller, however, behind the scenes they were beaten and tortured to make them perform these tricks with spoons. A tradition grew where they would brand patterns like waves and stars into their skin to make them appear more exotic.
When the circus industry began to dismantle, many circuses released their Abra and Kadabra into the wild. To this day, nearly all Kadabra found in Kanto's wilds are ex-circus performers, some even still hold onto spoons.
Little is known about where they came from originally, but it is thought it was a desert-like region as Kadabra seem to have a high tolerance to both hot and cold temperatures. They also store a large amount of fat in their tail which would help them in a barren area. They naturally carry a lot of their tail weight with their psychic abilities and tend to be quite shy of humans.

Being a psychic trainer I actually got my Kadabra from an old friend of mine who used to work in the circus. It's taken me a few years before my Kadabra would trust me. It wasn't until recently that we formed a bond. Someone tried to mug me and my Kadabra (who will not go into a pokéball at all) got between me and the mugger. The look in his eyes when he turned to face me was one I'll never forget.

Interesting take. I would have expected the tail to be fluffy.

Youd think right but nothing suggests it is, plus one of the creators stated it was solid

When I played the games, I liked Kadabra more than Alakazam, because Kadabra has cool tail. I learned to appreciate it, when I had nobody to trade pokemon with.

Huh, I always thought he had fur. Armadillos usually have furry underbellies, don't they? Anyway, looks great.

No, there’s nothing that indicates it’s furry in the design 😉 plus the creators confirmed it

I think iftthere's gonna be a real Kadabra, that's what it would be. The spoon looks bent out of shape.
