It was the summer break and I was visiting my cousins in Johto, we were visiting the local stately gardens just outside of SilverTown. As we walked through the forest we suddenly heard something! It almost sounded like a mixture between a deep guttural croak and a grown man shouting! I sat up with a start and I clocked that everyone else was just as surprised as I was. Again, the gravelly croak echoed on the wind and I couldn’t help but want to figure out this mystery. Grabbing my camera, I headed in the direction of the noise.
I followed a path that was a little overgrown but it didn't take me long to find a river. Once again I heard the croak, but this time much louder! Following the river I discovered the culprit, it was a Politoed! It let out deep roaring croaks, probably calling for a mate, but that was unlikely.
Wild Politoed are usually only found near King Rock deposits that had been opened up by rivers. Hundreds of years ago these veins were naturally exposed, so Poliwhirl would travel up river from the ocean to find them and evolve in order to breed in freshwater. That was until the Evolution Stone rush happened and people began to mine and sell the stones for trainers. Many natural breeding grounds were destroyed and less and less Politoed were found in the wild.
I had never seen one in person before, they're pretty rare in Kanto as it has no natural King’s Rock deposits. I snapped a few shots before he gave up on his crusade and leaped back into the water and disappeared under a large fallen log. That water looked pretty refreshing, but I headed back to the group…
