Description
Rattata are shy pokemon.

They have had years of persecution for being dirty animals, however this is not true. Rattata in fact are very clean and wash themselves regularly, however the flea's etc that they occasionally have, carry diseases that can make people sick.

Hundreds of years ago a huge outbreak started when rattata (brought over on ships from a foreign land) ran loose in city streets, they carried infected fleas that caused an epidemic, killing millions. People did not know that it was the fault of the fleas and Rattata were killed in the thousands. eventually the plague stopped, but the rattata population had dropped nearly to extinction. lucky they are very fast and efficient breeders, adapting their nests to where ever they can find them, This brought them back from extinction and now they are a common sight, though some still hang onto the idea that they are dirty as they have had to adapt to living in urban surroundings as their woodland homes were built over for new towns and cities, this has forced them to forage in bins etc to survive.

It is unknown why their fur has a purple pigmentation, but it is thought to be both a way of hiding in dark places, and also different shades help them to distinguish between each other in large groups.
