Oh, I'm just drawing these things on a semi continuous narrative I've made in my head, but I haven't been very enthusiastic about writing explanations xD 

I was maybe going for Gabriel taking damage in a fight against something and he's fled on Earth to heal alone, all the while blaming himself.

That’s definitely true. :C

I just imagined, just as a personal headcanon, that Gabriel brought along a young Castiel to Earth with him to do his work one day. Of course, he hasn’t slipped into his full role of Loki yet, but when they have a run-in with some pagan gods who inquire about Castiel, Gabriel quickly replies that it’s his little brother Býleistr. XD

Awwe, you're so right I kinda at least think that Gabriel was visiting eart for various reasons for a long time before he skipped on heaven totally, making it both more probable that people didn't immediately think of looking for him and he had already made the connections to disappear.

Plus being on Earth with Castiel sounds so cute <3

So do I. Gabriel definitely seems like the type to do so. I like to think that the Loki idea he had was just a brief disguise to go out and explore the world when he wanted to spend a bit of time away from his family.

I think Castiel could have been quite young, which is why he might not remember being called that. <3 Just a brief (lazy) explanation as to why he wouldn't know that or that Loki was Gabriel. XD

I totally take it like, Gabriel taking some refugee on Earth, maybe doing some of his duties and then skip out, make friends on Earth, so the final leaving all together wasn't something people noticed right away, giving him time to hide very well indeed.

When it comes to Castiel, cos his poor memory has been fucked over so badly by Naomi etc I am like 100% sure any of his memory isn't exactly reliable source of info, so yeah. Him being on earth, helping out Gabe is more than likely.
