Exploration 002- Gone Awry Expedition! Fog on the Bay

Balto got Trial #4
"Perhaps one of the local natives might have answers? But where are they? And what do they even look like? Check some likely hiding places, perhaps in tidepools?"

'Balto made his way down to the dark waters of the Bay. All was very quiet except for the splash of waves on the rocks. The explorers had been sent to find the reason for the sudden silent fro the natives of this area. Balto was hoping to find one and hopefully gain some information, however there was a problem. No one seemed to know what the natives looked like so Balto kept his eye out for anyone on the beach.
The big blue stallion tried to picture a good safe place where the native inhabitants of the Bay might hid, a cluster of rocky tidepools caught his attention. With infinite care Balto made his way over the wet stones. He paused uncertainly at the borders of the first black-watered pool. He wasn't afraid of much but one of his wort fears was that of drowning and being helpless in water.
"Come on you won't drown in a foot of water." He told himself and waded in.
The water was faintly lit by the stallions natural glow. Little shadows darted around his hooves. On closer inspection he saw that they were tiny fish with flashing silver scales. Balto watched their mesmerizing swim patterns before he inspected the rest of the inhabitants of the pool. A orange starfish clung to a rock and a little octopus darted into a crack. Balto leaned closer to the water to watch a crab scuttle through the sand.
"SPLASH!!!"
Balto's head shot up in alarm as he hear a very loud splash nearby. To his surprise he saw his view of the surrounding water was obscured by a heavy fog that had stolen upon hi silently. What ever had made the splash had been rather large. *Maybe it was just a big fish?* The stallion thought uneasily. The suddenness that the fog had rolled in was a bit nerving. A small noise on the rocks nearby...footfalls?
"Tahnavri?"
Balto called in a hushed voice. He hoped it was his apprentice returning from scouting out the cliffs above. No answer.
He peered into the boiling fog. After a while he fancied seeing shapes. Balto shook his head, this wouldn't do. He turned and headed back up the beach to the cliffs. Maybe there he would be able to get above the fog. As he trotted away from the waves he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was being watched.
