Story:
A week after her arrival Zoey was starting to get into the routines. She had tested out some more horses, and figured out who she was to work with. Her favourite this far was Camelot, they seemed to click immediately, and she behaved wonderfully both under saddle and in the stable. Caro had asked her if she wanted to test out Drum ‘n’ Bass, as he was to be used in cross country and show jumping, something that fitted her nicely.
When DnB and Grunga were saddled up, they started out in a slow walk. Caro said she would show her some of the trails close to the stable. “Sadly we don’t have our own cross country course here. But the terrain is challenging enough, so if you want you can create your own training course, and make some obstacles out of things your find at the stable and around here” she gestured towards the hills.
Zoey nodded, looking up the hill that also worked as a pasture for the horses. “Imagine cantering up and down there is good training in itself” Or running, she thought to herself.
“Yes, just make sure the ground isn’t too slippery, don’t want any accidents on the way down” Caro took a deep breath before giving Zoey a curious look. “Have you heard of White December?”
Zoey shook her head. “Can’t say I have. What is it?” she asked, thinking it sounded like something you would name a bigger mission or project.
“Its and endurance race, from Hungary to Norway. It was hosted for the first time last year. Nina entered then, the one who moved to Nattvik. Alva wondered if I would like to go, me being the only one left who has much experience in endurance. But I’ve been injured for a long time, and sadly haven’t been riding much the last year. I was wondering of you would be interested. It would be nice having out stable enter, as it is a rather huge event.” Caroline explained some more about the race, how it went for a mouth and that she would have three horses with her.
Zoey listened carefully. It did sound like a lot of fun. She was scared if would be too boring just being around the stable for a while year, so a month away didn’t sound too bad. She knew she was up for it physically, so that wouldn’t be a problem. “You know what, that does sound like a lot of fun” she finally said, smiling at Caro. “I think I would like to try that out. What horses would I bring?”
Carolines face lit up. “Wonderful! Noow you must promise to take lots of photos and videos and send home to us” she said all excited. “Last year Nina brought Grunga, this one” she petted the horse she sat on. “And Dakota, the little chestnut mare that belongs to Alva. We will have to talk to her, if she wants to you to bring both of them, but I imagine so. The third horse she borrowed from Nattvik, one of the stable hosting the event. They have their own breed called Mountainers, which is what Grunga is. They are excellent for events like that” She blabbered away, almost like it was her going to enter.
“Lets try to canter a bit shall we?” she grinned at Zoey before pressing her heels against Grungas side. DnB didn’t need much encouragement to speed up, and Grunga soon followed, though in a very fast trot. Caro sighed a bit, always forgetting about Grungas gaits. “It would be a lot more comfortable if you would just canter...” she mumbled, before looking over at Zoey with a face saying she was sorry for her most likely having to deal with the uncomfortable gait for an entire phase.
