- Admittedly, each quote has its limitations, and quotes tend to be too dogmatic at times. No malicious / nonsensical comments please!
- I read all comments and usually will reply to all, but it may take a little bit of time as I'm having pretty much on my plate now... I'll be freed in around one week

Haha, I find it admirable that instead of ranting you decide to turn it into something funny. ^^
But sometimes it's not a bad thing to continue and lay out each thought, each discussion and conflict can bring both sides further.

At least I try.
I could do this in 2 seconds, but I don't, because I know it's awful, no matter how many favorites it gets.
This person is a good drawer, I don't no why the waste their talent and do quotes instead.

Well it is a matter of difference, neither opinion is right/good or wrong/bad. I despise many things, but I will always acknowledge it is my personal view, rather than stating that if I say something it would be measurably better or wrong.
The thing is, we all believe we are right when we say something, and this is true, because we believe in it, it is our personal truth.
And here is the interesting thing: One person's truth is another person's lie, and visa versa.
We have different interests, different needs, different desires and from the moment anything does not cohere with the view of someone else, it suddenly becomes their wrong.
Regarding the artpiece, even 2 seconds work Can mean a lot to someone, because apparently it suits well to the viewer.
This basically goes with anything, not only art.

Okay, you obviously think differently of me, and you're not going to change, and neither am I.
So, my opinion stands, this is not worthy of a deviation,
your opinion still stands, this is art.
ok :I

Well that's not the point if it is art to me, I mean, for all I care we both agree this isn't art, or isn't.
If something is art to anyone, it's going to be art to that specific person. ^^

No. Wasting talent is more like drawing anthropomorphic animals prior to studying human anatomy. That literally forces artists to relearn things. Or porn because it literally stabs their reputation with a knife to get decent work.
However with this, if it is appealing to the eye or has any kind of visual language, it is art, whether or not you like it. That doesn't make it a waste.
Central focus, black bordered, white on black... This has visual language. I'm sure there is more impressive work, but it is far from a waste of talent.

Anthropomorphic animals use human anatomy. So bam.
It's a quote.
A quote.
I could do this in a matter of seconds.
Find someone else's wise quote.
Put it in white text.
Give it a black background.
Done.
All this can be done in word.

No, you did not understand what I said. I know what anthropomorphic animals are. They are supposed to use some human anatomy, but that does not mean it is studied. When people jump straight to animal-people, they are not learning human anatomy, and are inventing their own laws of anatomy from the mixture of animal traits, such as faces, fur, paws, etc... Many people try to skip it thinking they can find an easy way, since animals have easier facial expressions with tails and other ways to emote, in addition that we as humans, know exactly what looks wrong when we see someone else try to depict a human, so as animal-people, they get more freedom because it is not quite the same. However there is a major difference in quality between an artist's work who has and has not studied human anatomy extensively. It requires re-learning proper anatomy to get it right if you base it off that. So bam.
But if this bothers you so much, either ignore it, or do something similar. Either one will be more productive than what you are currently doing about it.

Wether or not you follow the human anatomy strictly is up to you. All anthro artists have different styles. Many draw the entire body human, and only the head, animal.
Anyway, this point doesn't need to be debated over, I get what you're trying to say.
The comment section is here for a reason.
I'm allowed to express my opinion, and I honestly don't care if people hate me for it, It's not like I'm killing babies here.

For someone who doesn't care, you seem to like throwing around random points in an attempt to defend yourself.
The comments are for discussion. Not to attack people for what they post.

If you talk to me, I'm not going to ignore you.
And y'know, I'm not really even taking you seriously, your gallery is just full of erotic art. Someone of your immaturity level doesn't deserve my attention.

Don't forget that visuals are just one type of art. Ideas, even in their purest forms, can be art too.

We are artists when we say it's art it is art. That's where artists are for. But I must admit that it would be a pity to stop drawing and only write quotes..

Ikr, but some art doesn't look like art either. Agree and disagree with anything and anyone.
But we all agree we are going to die.

Totally not agreeing. It's your choice. You get to decide what you will do when you start the day. Pain is a given, suffering is a choice. The same goes for all the fun things in life.

The issue with stoicism is that the mind is not free. Theoretically (not practically (yet)), it would be possible to directly mess with your brain to make you think of various things, including suffering. Of course, this is an extreme example, but this is also true to lesser extents every day. There is only so much influence you have on your thoughts. While for example buddhist monks can reach levels of apathy which were thought of as humanly impossible before by using meditation, even the greatest guru is susceptible to perception and reaction. Otherwise such a person might as well count as dead for all our intents and purposes.
Besides, as ~Duraiku-kun pointed out, I think you missed ~minzi 's point. He or she was not claiming that humans are slaves of emotions, but that all beings are slaves of existence. Nobody chooses to exist, to our limited knowledge at least.
As for choosing not to live by committing suicide, that means you already existed at some point and you were just lucky that the universe granted you the liberty to pick such an option.

Thundermane In reply to Sushimitzu [2013-04-30 11:51:06 +0000 UTC]
That's a big collection of assumptions. The lack of choice is something that has grown on us, rather than something you don't have by default. But in reality there are always choices, even though the older you get, the less likely you will figure that reality out. If you have always lived from the thought that everything is mere action and reaction, than you have not yet found creation. We can make our own realities.
The thing with guru's and monks is that the levels of apathy are phases in their lives, something to go through, more often than not they will go through this process and eventually find a different position later on.
Indeed our ego's don't choose to exist, but the very fact you live right now, in essence you do choose to exist. There is no such thing as being lucky that the universe granted you the liberty to pick such an option. Freedom is a given, any chains we have are the constructs of illusion upon illusion that are so frequent that you will start to believe in these illusions.
The whole deal about meditiation is breaking down all illusions until you see the only thing what's left which is reality. When you get back from meditation you will again be engulfed by illusions. If you meditate often you see that the only thing that pierces through our world of illusion is empathy and love.
Being able to be on the same "vibe" - if you will - with another person.
And with love I don't mean the shallow love of lust.
I have experienced deep connection with other people and even with my pet during these sessions, if you haven't experienced it before it would be hard to believe. You literally become entwined in some way, you see the boundaries that make you being you, me being me, him being him, her being her, the seperate parts disappear and what you see is how everything is in fact connected.
That is real love.

Sushimitzu In reply to Thundermane [2013-05-02 16:22:12 +0000 UTC]
The love and connectedness you feel when meditating is yet another of those illusions you talk about. What you feel is not necessarily what is real. I do not find it hard to believe there is someone who never felt this love you speak of; instead, I find it hard to believe that just because you feel something that means the universe is speaking to you in its true tongue.
All I am saying is that I do not need any imaginary friend to fool myself into believing my morals are objectively justified.

Thundermane In reply to Sushimitzu [2013-05-02 17:31:08 +0000 UTC]
Well objectively speaking any morals are justified, I'd say. The exact thing I speak of is releaving oneself of imagination and breaking down all illusions until nothing is left.
But honestly though, I think we could discuss this forever, in the end it doesn't matter what you believe, or what I believe, just as long we all give each other space to believe what we want in a peaceful way. ^^

And many theists do not go that way because, after all, it is their holy responsibility to teach the heathens what they think is God's way.

Pretty much so. Kinda sad when you hate war. I suppose some people thrive in war.

This isnt a reply to you specifically, just to most comments here so far.
Nothing is "random", its all part of a plan, life has a purpose, yes we didn't ask to be born, but God tells us why we are here. I'm not afraid to die, nor am I afraid to live, because we can have confidence in Him, and His son's sacrifice. Apart from Him, then yes, everything is meaningless and a result of complete randomness, including this comment, and all others before it.

I too believe in God, but not in a religious way. Not in the way that God is something with a will, or mind. It is in fact everything, it is freedom. We are God experiencing itself. We cannot make mistakes. We cannot betray God. How could God be angry at us, or find rules about what we should or should not do, if we are in fact God?

What would you think of the idea that God is actually the Creator of everything we see and experience, and we are part of His creation?

I believe we aren't just creations, but also creators, and parts of God. God and us are not seperate things.

Would you say the carpenter is simply part of the table he constructed? Neither is God simply a part of us (God is outside of space and time, He created OUR physical world in which we live, he transcends the laws of this world). We are made in his image, that is the difference.
Isaiah 29:16 states, βYou turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, βHe did not make meβ? Can the pot say of the potter, βHe knows nothingβ? Isaiah reiterates again, βBut now, this is what the LORD saysβhe who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: βFear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mineβ (Isaiah 43:1).
I posted this response in another comment response, so I will copy/paste to you the same as well. Do you like youtube? I love youtube. This video is probably one of the best explanations of the WHY of the biblical faith I've ever found, and shows how if you start apart from God, nothing CAN make sense. Can you spare an hour of your life to truly understand what it is people Christians believe and why? I know it's long, but a topic like this takes at least an hour to explain.

The Bible isn't really an adequate reference.
The problem we face is that instead of what people say "we are made in God's image", in fact what most people Believe that means God must be like humans.
To me it means we have freedom and are creative. However this freedom is something that is taken from us by many means, one of which is religion.
There are to many errors in religion as it prescribes a way to think, tries to find a canvas to outlie how and what to think and Believe through the Bible.
That takes away freedom. Now I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing, however I do believe it takes away the potential each individual has to find out on what they want to decide to do for society, in life and for him or herself.
The notion God would be one him or her, one entity with an idea of good and bad doesn't do God "justice". God created everything and than gave everything freedom to become what it is. We are all God experiencing itself.
Anyway, I will watch this video, but I'll be gone for a few days, unquestionably you will respond, so I will respond later. Cheers. ^^

Why do you concern yourself with God? Or to put it differently, how does it matter to you if God claims one thing or the other is meaningful? Without even talking about how one can be sure what God's will actually is, it seems like the reason you believe God is right is because God says so. I am not sure about you, but I do not find that reasoning (or rather lack thereof) particularly compelling, even coming from the master of the universe.

How do you determine reason apart from starting point of God? I'm curious as to what it is you believe? In your worldview, is reason itself is simply a chemical process in your mind? How can you trust your own thoughts? With a universe with no involvement from God, everything is subjective, rendering any form of debate pointless. My chemical reactions in my brain don't match yours, so we are done here (your worldview).
My worldview is all encompassing, complete with purpose, moral standards, history, even future, and more importantly, Salvation from this fallen world.

How do you determine reason apart from starting point of God?
MΓΌnchhausen Trilemma .
I'm curious as to what it is you believe?Rationality .
In your worldview, is reason itself is simply a chemical process in your mind?It is. But why would that make it impossible for me to find it meaningful?
How can you trust your own thoughts?I can't. If anything, though, my own thoughts are the bare minimum of what I have to accept as true. Even for trusting God you need to trust the thought that you trust him.
With a universe with no involvement from God, everything is subjective, rendering any form of debate pointless.Of course everything we perceive is subjective, but once again that does not make it pointless. Since centuries it has been and still is the quest of many philosophers to find personal meaning in a universe that does not seem to care at all. Existentialists such as Kierkegaard have built a reasoning revolving around this uncertainty.
My chemical reactions in my brain don't match yours, so we are done here (your worldview). This is true on many levels, however, if you believe in logic, which every human does (it is how our brain is short-wired), we can discuss matters of logic such as deduction. In other words, we may have different starting points (so-called "axioms"), but everyone with the same axioms should draw the same conclusions, as we all share logic. If someone does not end up with the same conclusions, we call it an error in their reasoning, which we can debate over logically.
Besides, given how similar humans are by nature (even the most deviant human shares 99.9% of the genetic code with you), these axioms will be as well. You will not, for example, find anyone who sincerely believes that suicide is good as someone thinking so who has the opportunity to act on their will would be dead. Moreover you will find most humans merely care for themselves and many just seek pleasure and avoid pain.
So not only can we debate even completely distinct values due to shared logic, but by happenstance these values usually are not completely distinct.
